I love the IQ of primes and the versatility of zooms. here is no wasy I could pick a favorite, because I enjoy so many types of shooting.

It looks like you are just going to have to get many more lenses  :-)

I think this delays my retirement…

Well, the OP, (me) was asking what others are using. The only FX lens I own is a macro. When/If I go FF, I'll likely go for a short prime…and add a longer lens later….

I'll certainly look at the 24-120….

You won't be disappointed.

Do stay away from the 28-300 mm f/3.5=5.6 G as I found you have to be very careful to lock it after each use or it will creep out into full zoom under the effects of gravity. This was my experience; that is why I gave it to my brother. Your mileage may vary, but is kept bugging me.

On my D810 I use mainly Prime lenses 90% of time -- in the 21-105mm range. Most used are: Zeiss Zf 35mm 2.0, 50mm Makro, 21mm, 100mm Makro, and Nikon 50mm f1.2.

I generally carry the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200. If I had to choose just one it would be the 24-70.

Wow. The Holy Trinity.

And of those three, I would also choose the 24-70.

If I'm just walking around town, 28mm-300mm. If I'm shooting models, 24mm-70mm or 85mm.

D810 is full frame--that's a DX lens.

So, where is written that you can't use a DX lens on a Full Frame sensor camera?

Unless you already have a DX lens, why would you want to do that?

Of course you can. But why would you, and why would someone post it in a thread about favorite lens for a D810?

It is either the 150-600mm Sport or the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8.
