Pre And Post HDR Photos

I took this photo downtown Ft Lauderdale, FL. I used my Nikon D300S, with a Nikon 17-200mm lens. I used a tripod and shutter release cable. The ISO was set to 200, and f-stop to f-9. I took 7 exposures 1 stop apart. I merged all 7 photos using Photomatrix,did some tonal mapping, and further enhanced them using Photoshop. I would appreciate your honest critique and feedback on these photos. Thank you, Arnold

An interesting image. IMHO it could be straightened about 2 degrees CW as below.

good work i say, choosing that ball is interesting aswell. Now for ur next challange same shot or shots but also do a focus stack with that HDR and you got a 1st class photo. I like your HDR its nicely done.
When i grow up i will atempt a HDR focus stack.

Have you try the focus stack yet on a HDR images? if so, maybe you can post one on the Ugly Hedgehog forum.

No not at all, im still looking forward to doing my first HDR when i grow up, dont even know if it's posiable but i can see it in my minds eye and if it carn't be done i'll find out the hard way, iv'e only been shooting a month so Arnold i dont have a clue of the possiabiltys that await me and im the sort of person who thinks "theres got be a way dont tell me it carnt be done there has to be a way"

Great work!! Love how you can manipulate the shots. I'm just getting started with HDR and enjoying playing with it. I am using Photomatrix Pro with my Nikon D-300 camera.

The post-HDR photo wins by a bunch for me. It's almost like a Lomo picture. It would be interesting to see the other 6 images to see which gave the most detail naturally.

Superkru, As requested, the other 6 images I used to make this final HDR image. I have also found that you don't need to take all 7 photographs to make a final HDR image. All the photographs you need to use, are the ones with info/details you want to have in the final image. This is something Jon Sund told me and it works quick well. Arnold

Thanks for posting the images! Looks like -2 gives the best disc and background, and +2 the best foreground. I definitely like the HDR result best, though.

aside from the slight tilt. the HDR appears a bit overdone. the sky doesn't look natural, the lighting is inconsistent in the middle distance, the foreground is unnaturally bright, and there seems to be a very slight bit of 'ghosting', most noticeable on the buildings.
here's the -1 stop image after a pass through ReDynaMix, a bit of selective brightening, and a little unsharp mask... took me all of about 45 seconds...

You could have done a good job with only three of these images but its good work none the less. If I may critique a bit the leading line of the stone path draws the eye to the stone tablet as it should but the over done sky competes for attention. I do not know which program you used but I use photomatix and I would have selected a different photograph from which to render the sky, perhaps one with a little less contrast.
