Hi folks, not sure if it is me or not but I have taken some panorama shots on this card with my Canon 5D II when I read the card the pics are out of sequence. Scattered through other pictures I have taken. Can anyone help please

So you took the pano shots one after the other, but they aren't one after the other on the card or in the numbering sequence? Definitely weird. Can you post the EXIF data, like time taken, for those pictures and some others?

Have you erased pictures in the camera before? Maybe Canon re-uses the space differently then expected?

If you try again, I'd suggest re-formatting the card in the camera, then shoot your pan.

does it do it on other cards or just this one in particular. Is the naming of the file in line with the other files, or does it use some sort of strange extension or file name. Perhaps it's the camera, not the card. Can you sort by date and time taken?

Sounds like your card needs to be reformatted in your camera.

You need to format in the camera to get rid of the file allocation table on the card. Once the FAT has been overwritten you should have no problems with sequential storage of panoramic images provided they are shot in succession.

In Library module and grid view click on sort and then capture time. This should arrange them in the order they were taken.

If you're viewing them in Windows Explorer, just right click and select sort by name.

Bingo. I can't believe everyone it telling the OP to format the card. Dude, whatever you are using to view your images with, all you have to do is tell it to sort by name. Even if you sort by date they will probably all be in order of date and time shot. Just sort.

I agree with your solution

While I agree that it's important to occasionally format memory cards in-camera (I do it every time I insert a fresh card)....

DON'T FORMAT UNTIL ALL IMAGES YOU WANT TO KEEP HAVE BEEN COPIED OFF THE CARD. Formatting will let the camera freely overwrite old images on the card.

It sounds as if you've solved the problem by changing the sort method in Windows Explorer. That's good, because formatting almost certainly wouldn't solve anything.

It's probably the file numbering system that caused the problem. Once you reach image #9999, a 5DII will automatically create a new folder on the memory card and start the sequence over with image #0001. If your viewer is set to sort by file name, this will cause the images to be out of order. (If I recall correctly, the 5DII can be set to restart the sequence each time a new card is installed or a card is formatted, or to continue the sequence from card-to-card, or to restart the sequence manually. I set mine up to simply carry over the sequence regardless.... and I always use a "date/time created" sort however I'm viewing my files.)

Incidentally, if viewing the image files as thumbnails in Win Explorer (or similar), you might need to temporarily change to "detail" view instead of thumbnail view, in order to change the sort method. The sort you set should then be the same when you switch back to one of the thumbnail views (small, medium and large thumbnails are avail. in recent versions of Win Explorer... but it will only display JPEGs. Won't display RAW files as thumbnails unless you install a codec such as Fast Picture Viewer.)

Also be aware the Windows Explorer (and other Windows image viewing devices such as Picture Viewer) are not color calibrated. So depending upon the file type and color space it's using, images can look a bit odd.

Also, be careful about making any edits or other changes to image files while they are still on the memory card. There was a recent example here on UHH of a card that seemed to become corrupted simply by rotating some images on it. It's best to copy the image files off to some folder on your hard drive, before messing with them at all.

Are the fastest memory cards best for my D3300 DSLR camera?
Sandisk extreme Pro 32gb 95MB/s and 90MB/s or is that card a waste of my money.

The brand nor size has anything to do with this.
