That I can't much help you with but since you have posted in the Introduce Yourself section I will say Welcome. Your question would probably be better answered if you placed it in the Main Photography Section. That way more of the members here would see it. I am sure someone here will have an answer for what you are seeking.

Well, this is not art. :)

Position them side by side and turned slightly toward one another. Have them tilt their heads just slightly toward the partner as there is a tendency to tilt heads away.

Since they are turned slightly, have them both put their weight on the rear leg and let the forward leg bend a bit. Even a leg hid under a gown should be bent as it helps shape the upper torso.

Take two shots and move on!

How are you lighting this?

Using natural light hoping to get the right time of day for some side lighting but may fill the shadows with some flash

Thank You

Be VERY careful with side lighting in this situation. It is easy to get one person in the shadow of the other. Some fill flash is a good idea.

I was just reading something last night (ironic) suggesting many different poses for couples. Google digital photography school and it should be on the first or second page of "new articles for this week". I thought it was great for a beginner.

I have two places I use for poses, number one youtube. Two is ebay I look over templates which keeps me up with the times and what people like. After looking at this link click on background material at the up of the paper. You will have all type of stuff you might use.

Hey CaptainC. Boy does that bring back a lot of memories reading what you said about prom pictures, and telling them to put there weight on one leg or ther other. I use to own a studio in Indiana, and I photographed 500 seniors every year. Keeps you own your toes doesn't it? I miss it!!

Yep - it is quick and it works. While most of the help offered here is well-intended, I have to laugh at the thought of getting kids at the prom to pose in any of the suggestions I saw here. With the exception of the first one at the link gerhel posted, it just won't happen.
I need to repeat this- It is NOT ART! side-by-side, turn in toward one another, you can put the arms behind your partner, tilt heads a bit toward your partner. Take the shot...two if you think there was a blink. That's it. NEXT!
If you want to futz around getting kids into poses in which they are uncomfortable, by all means do so.

What to do with the hands? Here is one suggestion. Have the guy make a fist, yes a fist with the hand farthest away from the gal. He reaches across with his hand toward the girl at chest height or a little lower. The gal places her hand over the top of his. This is a very nice pose and can show off the flowers the gal often has on her wrist. Try it. It's very elegant. Looks nice in some wedding posses too.

Hands out of pockets, crossed in front of them down to the sides or behind them. When photographing the young lady, use stairs and get a "Gilda" pose and Scarlett O'Hara pose.
