I'll be honest, I've made a mess of my Lightroom catalogs and try as I might I'm still confused about importing photos to the catalog.
Does anyone here have the ability to screen share with me? Do you also have the Lightroom skills to help me? I'm more than willing to pay a reasonable price for your time if you can help. Please PM me if you are able to help. Thanks...

More resources that may help you understand LR better...

Peruse through the info below, pick out what you think is important at this time and go forth :)

LR4 - Video training package
Scroll down to the lessons - they are free - do not click on the buy link.
Focus on "Lightroom Interface", "Import", "Sort", and "Organize"
(although an older package - the foundation material is still relevant)

I do not have the LR skills. But in case you were not aware, once you find someone; Windows Remote Assistance will allow you to invite another user to remote control your computer.

I felt the same way about importing into LR. Took a class at a local camera store (Sammy's in Pasadena, CA) Best $195 I've spent in a long while.

Cleaning up a catalog can be a huge job depend on a few things:
1. How many photos in your catclog
2. What do you call cleaning up?
a. Organizing/Keywording so you can find any image in a few seconds. This can take tons of work depending on what you've done so far.

It also depends on your photo library structure. Even importing although an easy task requires one to think about where you put the imported images. Structure etc. You can learn importing from any one of a thousand videos, but this won't help you create a clean catalog - or clean up a messy one. Sounds like you need a full course, not just one Youtube Video. I suggest you go to Lynda.com and buy a one month subscription and burrow through the LR courses.

Buy a book or two or three.... Scott Kelby's books about Lightroom are very helpful. Tony Northrup, Victoria Brampton and Martin Evening have also written some excellent guides. Just look for a book that pertains to whatever version of LR you are using.

Once you get up to speed with better understanding of the basics about how LR works, advancing to later versions becomes a whole lot easier. Even so, any time I've upgraded I have made a point of buying at least one of the books, usually Kelby's.

I prefer a book over online tutorials, because you can read, reread and study it at your own pace. A book (or two or three) also would be much more affordable than the individual one-on-one tutoring you're asking for!

Find a local camera club in your area, and contact the president. I am willing to bet that a member would be glad to come over and help you. Bake him some cookies
