So many of the places that I do wildlife photos has such a varying degree
of sunlight, clouds, woods and so on that I decided to try the Auto ISO setting.
I am using a Canon EOS 1DX with a 100-400LII lens with a 1.4XIII extender. I shoot high shutter speed for my birds in flight shots and I was
surprised at how high the ISO would go in the Auto mode. The eagles in this set were taken after three PM today. I had the evening sun over my left shoulder with open field and I had woods to my right and rear. My distance to subject was approx. 300 feet. I did one un-cropped to give a perspective of distance. In the last photo the sun was setting fast as you can see the left to right lighting changes.
When I got home it was totally dark and I thought I saw a UFO over our
pasture, but after taking a photo of it, was only a Directv Blimp with flashing
lights. Please use the down loads and view the data. mdh

A good series of photographs.
Auto ISO can sometimes do a really good job.

Incredible captures, great work!
Love the captions. I actually pictured the Eagle talking.
Beautiful series, Dennis!
Beautiful series. I love the Eagle shots. I haven't played with auto ISO. I love taking BIF and sitting Eagle shots but constantly have setting problems, thanks for the tips.
i have the 1d mk4 and the 1ds mk3.
is the 1dx worth getting if the only variable is noise reduction. I do a lot of low light photography.
