Then as soon as a photo gets a vote it goes to the end of the line...shouldn't be hard to write a program for that...

One of the problems I noticed is that there are so many photos that the first photos get the advantage.

Why not use software to change the order of appearance randomly with each viewer/viewing

One vote per picture, don't show running count of votes per picture until contest is over

Agree, simple and uncomplicated. It is nice to be recognized for a photo you took and honesty should be a given. No prize money or equipment given away or contract for 6 issues in a magazine, etc. It is for fun right? Keep it simple and uncomplicated. JMHO :?

Unfortunately, from my experience, voting contests are difficult things to manage from a voting stand point. My photo club has gnawed on this bone for years amd our final decision was to allow one person to vote for 2 and only 2 pictures.

That club is much smaller than UHH so 5 votes is reasonable. I agree that the votes should not be tallied until the contest is closed, then as one member suggested post the 5 pictures with the most votes (and ties) then the group each get one vote from the finalists. I think this is simple and straight forward

So - - Admin: How bout it - - seems like the brilliance of the hogs has now died down. Of course, I like MY suggestion best - but it may be more difficult to program. There seem to be lots of well qualified, retired hogs who for a few ostrich feathers would be happy to participate in a pre-review panel selection process - -
.
What 'cha gonna do ??

Neither a 5-point system nor allowing 5 votes per user would work. It's simply not enough to cover the voter to photo ratio on UHH.

Two-stage contests are too complicated.

I cant see what the problem is, one vote per person,no votes shown until voting is over,in case of a tie have a vote off. job done.

Makes sense to me. BTW I majored in Mathematics. I subscribe to the KISS Principle, however.

Well all I remember from calcalus is that the only constant is the varying rate of change

I guess that's the trick - - how to uncomplicate a process where there are a large number of photos to evaluate, while ensuring each photo receives the same visibility and access to voter review.

If the variation in the rate of change is constant - that's only a quadratic equation aX^2 + bX + c. Evaluating Hyperbolic Cosecants is much more fun :-) - even than an infinite series regression

That's exactly what I was referring to: KISS. Now apply Bayre's Theorem to the various subset probabilities and we'll be al set. Oops! how many s.d.'s ( I vote 3).

So back to reality. 1 vote per member. No tally. Most votes win a kewpie doll.

Bayres theorem says "take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning :-)

BAYEs theorem relates inverse representations of the probabilities concerning two events.

HEY!! You're Right !! Admin could use THAT to determine the winner :-)

Bayesian Probability
Bayesian Probability...
