Mike,

Good luck with Photoshop...designed by committed, and it takes a college course to learn it. But it is very powerful (and expensive.)

I experimented with it and the results for me were as dismal as the problems you experienced with an amazingly simple (in comparison) program called Picasa.

Nothing and no one is perfect, just do what you have to do. It's obvious that you are an experienced photographer and enjoy what you do (like most of us do, especially myself, being just a hobbyist). I wish you success with your quest and if you find some great program that satisfies you and is not astronomically priced, let us know.

What program are you currently using?

Good luck

Jim

Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition 2. Had it about 10 years. But now I'm on Win7 and it won't read Help files that were originally written in Word. Now that I want to use layers and selections I'm kind of cut off at the Pass.

Which segues to your shot of the Texas Cowpoke. I just want to sit here looking at it thinking you've done it to me again! At the risk of repeating myself.........WOW!

How about CP/M (remember the Osborne-1 'luggable' portable computer with built-in keyboard base, 5" CRT?) Helped me make Recruiter of the Year in 1983 in Memphis...but the office manager made me take it out of the office (talk about computerphobia)...so I still outrecruited everybody from my pickup camper...it worked on 12V too!!!

I really don't remember that. I think it is because I suffer from a variety of serious ailments: CRS, CSS and CHS. For those who aren't in the medical field or are that are, "Can't remember sh__", "Can't see sh__" and "Can't hear sh__". Sorry, just had to throw that in and it is true.
It is true when I took "computers" in high school, it was called data processing and done with punch cards.

I don't mean to ask the obvious, but do you have Word installed on your Win7 machine? If not, you can download the free Word Viewer and your Help files will open.

Agreed. I think Mike needs to join a computer support forum. There is no shame in doing this.

YEAH, we aren't out of the drought yet, either. We have drained the natural aquifers that take thousands of years to fill..

Shame? Pardon? I'm not ashamed to be in this Forum. What make's you think I'd be ashamed to be in a computer support one? CNET Win7 Forum is on the case.
Yes - I have Word. Sorry I got that wrong. I should've said "Help files that were originally made in Win Help Format" (see the attachment) and that's what PhotoDeluxe's Help is written in. Win 7 Professional needs an obscure little programme way down in the depths of it in order to be able to download a programme that will enable Help files to be read. My copy doesn't have it. A couple of different scan programmes have proved it to me. Should I have asked for a copy that included it? Silly me! Didn't think of that at the time.
That's why I need a more modern Editor.
Mike
ps - it seems it isn't really on to bring XP into this computer either. Win7, being on the User's side, thought of that too.

I learned to program on a CP/M computer. Of course applications for those machines were almost nonexistent, so if you wanted it to do anything, you had to program it. Fun!
