I shot Pentax for a very long time, from the Spotmatic to their first AF system. Great products, but I found the system restricting when I branched out. Still have a Spotmatic!

Before any of you go off on me, I'm NOT trying to start a conflict as to which is better. I'm just curious to find out how many share my experienced with the brand and what particular models they use.

I'm always amused at how vociferous many who shoot "OTHER" brands become when they get even a slight hint that there's a perceived slam against their favorite. Chill, my brothers and sisters. That's not what this is about. ;)

I currently have a K-50 and absolutely love it! I've had 2 Fuji bridge cameras, 2 Canon bridges, a Nikon D5100, and now the K-50. Comparing the Nikon D5100 with the K-50, to me they seem about equal in image quality and in handling noise but that's about where the K-50 begins to move ahead of it significantly: the image stabilization is in the body rather than the lens, it has MUCH higher ISO, it has more cross-points, the color rendition seems to me to be just a little bit better, it has a much faster shutter speed (1/6000), the viewfinder gives 100% coverage, and it is weather sealed. If someone is new to photography and is looking for a great camera that will carry them through probably until they're ready for the "big dance" (full frame), you simply can't find a better camera and the COST is what makes it even better! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I started out as a die hard Nikon fan in the film days. Still have my F2as. My first digital camera was a Canon Rebel. After doing a lot of research, I decided to get a Pentax K5 IIs. Never been happier!! So many legacy lenses to choose from!

Started in 1967 with an original Spotmatic. Moved to an MX, which I still have, for the benefits of bayonet mount. Sold my Spotmatic. Added a PZ-1p for autofocus and other features - still cherish this one, too.

When I finally decided to go digital it was with a K10d. In 2014 I added a K-3 to the mix which I now shoot with almost exclusively.

It's nice that all my lenses from the very first will work with the latest body.

love Pentax and find their cameras are a great value precisely because they're under-estimated and under-sell. I have a K-5, K-7, and a few film cameras, including my first-ever camera -- a limited-edition K1000 SE with brown body and split-screen focus. I'm in love with the 77 mm limited lens in particular and the vintage glass I have too. Thanks for asking!

In the mid-80's I purchased my first "real camera", a 35mm Pentax SF10 and accumulated several lenses for this camera. When the digital age got underway I bought a Canon a510 point-n-shoot which I enjoyed for several years and found that I was not using the film camera (which I still have) all that much. After doing some research and finding that Pentax was one of the few manufacturers of digital SLR's whose cameras would accept older lenses I bought an istDL and really liked this camera as it felt very familiar in my hands and the image quality was very good, but somewhat limited for enlargements as it only was 6.3 megapixels (still have and use as a 2nd body). I then decided to look for a Pentax model with a bit more resolution that would fall within my price range and found that the Kx model fit the bill. It has the image stabilization feature built into the body so that it would work with my collection of previuosly purchased lenses and I am perfectly happy with my equipment as it stands now.

One of my hopes is to get more information as to Ricohs success in getting a USA Warranty center re-opened so they can release their new K-1 full frame digital. The release was delayed from last September to "Spring 2016" because dealers balked at selling the new camera with no USA warranty facility.

MT - you usually have your finger on the pulse of the industry, but this post puzzles me and may lead others to discount Pentax. I believe that Pentax uses Precision Camera for both in and out of warranty repairs. While this is not a Ricoh-owned service center, it is nonetheless their USA warranty facility. I do remember that starting back when Honeywell was the US distributor most repairs were handled in-house in Colorado. It might be nice to see this setup again, but I don't know whether it would make financial sense.

Some time after the acquisition of the Pentax brand by Ricoh, they transitioned warranty and other repairs from Cris to Precision. This transition did not go as well as one would hope and caused many complaints regarding responsiveness and repair turnaround. Those issues seem to be resolved, but have probably left a bad taste in people's mouths, including potential dealers.

Note that I have no connection with Ricoh other than as a long time Pentax owner.

Had many starting with the P3. Presently use k5 for general and lower light needs. Use my favorite the k20d for many other needs.

I like the crop sensors but will heavily look at the new full frame when ever it finally does comes out.

I like my K 50 real well. I've taken to collecting old lenses and enjoying manual focus.

Given the number of surveys here lately, someone must be writing a lot of books!

Been shooting Pentax since 1962, with an occasional detour. Currently use a K-3 with Pentax, Takumar and Sigma lenses.

Still have my SF-1, but digital is so much easier!
