I went from a D300 (which I still have) to a D7100 (was waiting for a never to be produced D400)... I stayed with DX format as I shot a lot of macro & nature & this format works well for that. I still have many lenses from film days, thus I have mostly FX format lenses. The few DX format lenses I own are to mainly cover wide angle shots that suffer from the crop sensor factor... The D7100 or D7200 are the top of the line in the DX format should you go that route. Either one will also meter & shoot older manual focus lenses (which your D90 wouldn't meter with)... I utilize any number of older lenses on my cameras. saves me lots of money over current AF technology lenses...

How does it focus a manual len's . The d90 is one of the few that will focus lenses with out a built in motor though
Read my reply again. I never said it would focus manual focus lenses. Just that it would meter & shoot with them. The D90 has a built in focus motor & as such, it will focus any Nikon mount AF lens. The D50, D70/s, D80, D90 & up DX format DSLR's all have a built in screw drive focus motor. The D40/x, D60, D3xxx & D5xxx DSLR's require lenses with focus motors in them as they have no built in motor in the body.

I have my D90 and my 7200 and really like both of them. I'll keep my D90 till it dies. Still a great camera. On the other hand I still have my FE-2..!

I have kept my D90 as my back-up camera. I suggest that you do the same, and look at either a new D7200 or a D7100 (with significant price drop). Here is a side-by-side comparison, with differences in darker blue boxes:

When comparing apples to apples, or in this case, Nikons to Nikons, I also like to pull up the Nikon specifications and see what is the real difference between the two cameras.
