help lightroom 5 adding photos to collection

I can create collections in Lightroom 5 initially by selecting a batch of photos, but can't drag photos from the library grid to add to collection after that. I have looked at tutorials, etc but so far can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Any help is appreciated. My software is up to date.

You are "grabbing" the photos wrong. Select them then grab within the photo, not the border

You can also make a collection the "Target Collection".

First select or highlight the collection, right click and pick "Set as Target Collection". A "+" will show up showing it as selected.

Now you can select a photo or group of photos, right click and select "Add to Target Collection". Or you can select a photo an press the shortcut key "B".

Thanks for the quick and obvious solution. I was grabbing from the gray border. Problem solved.
