I've been lurking for a few weeks, I guess I should introduce myself. I was born in NW Illinois and lived in Phoenix most of my life. My wife and I are currently snowbirds, living in Phoenix in the winter and NW Ohio during the summer.
I did a lot of amateur film photography in the 80s then got busy with life. I've just recently jumped back in with digital technology and find I'm having to learn all over again!

Why? The principles of photography haven't changed. ISO (film speed), aperture, shutter, light, shadows, composition. It's all the same. If you could take pictures with film, you can take pictures with digital.
Forget the "gimmicks" and just concentrate on the basics. Except for a narrower dynamic range in some cases, there is no reason that you can't take pictures as good as and in most cases better than you took with film.
Now get out there and start having fun!
Thanks for the nice replies!
Welcome to the HOG
Enjoy.

Hello Bob and welcome to the UHH.
Welcome to the Hog, Bob. Not a heavy lift moving from film to digital. But can take some time learning the terminology. The computer and post processing is a different story- a new experience that for many can be quite frustrating and there is always more to learn. Have fun. ;)
Welcome to the Forum Bob.
Welcome to Phoenix and UHH.
Hi Bob, Im glad you took the plunge and I hope you enjoy the Hogg,
Geoff
