I have the same problems some days. I have tried everything to find solution
and I am a computer guy. It's not Win 10, it did it on 7, it's not a virus or
malware, I clean my machine often. I did install Firefox and go to MSN inside
Firefox and it helps a lot, so it boils down to it's the BROWSER.

Thanks for the advice. Right after I posted I stayed on the site, and now everything seems to be working fine. Last month I was having a lot of problems with IE- I had to reboot my modem almost every day- but lately that hasn't happened.
I used to be "up" on computer issues- but the older I get the farther behind I feel. I'm really just winging it now when I have issues. I have not yet upgraded to Windows 10- my PC is only two years old, Windows 8, which took me quite a while to get used to, and I'm really not looking forward to dealing with installing Windows 10.

I have been experiencing severe problems with the site- especially today.
It takes forever to load, and even after waiting a considerable time I often get just the "X" box, no picture. Today, it has been freezing up on me all the time, I'm about to give up on the site although I love it.

It may be an issue with your connection or external site elements that are loading on to the page in addition to the content hosted on the site.

a ping command e.g ping uglyhedgehog.com should be less than say a 1000 ms

e.g from ireland on 3g

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 213.337/225.529/246.352/9.421 ms

thats fairly typical with no packet loss between 200 - 250 ms

the results there are pretty good. It is likely either your lan or your isp

I was having this kind of problem to some degree when on the internet but very bad on UHH. I use Windows 10 on Dell laptop. I called Dell and they uninstalled the McAfee security program and reinstalled it. Seems to have cleared it up. Merry Christmas, Tom

Have to agree with traveler. DL adblock plus and your bandwidth won't be eaten by the pesky ads. I never see them here at all. They have it available for IE and FF.

Have you checked for viruses, possibly picked up from face book or other external social sites?

I use Trend Micro and scan my computer every couple of days for viruses. Seems to be okay in that regard.

I would venture to guess it is most likely a computer problem on your end, possibly an ISP issue.

See what is running in the background, reboot and try again.

If you are running Internet Explorer/Windows, it can become problematic because of add ons, ads or malware very easily today.

I am running IE on Windows 10. How does one see what is running in the background? I typically don't have any other programs running at the same time that I am on the internet, if that is what you are referring to (sorry, not super savvy with computers). I have 28g of RAM, i7 Quad Core, so I don't think that is the problem. It may be my ISP (Comcast), but the last ping test I did showed download speed of 23 mbps (although I have seen is as low as 9 in the past). Most other sites seem to load fine. The problem does seem to be limited to this site for some reason.

Running Windows 7 using IE11 with a i7 and 8gb of Ram. I used to have problems like you, but with Adblocker...UHH runs lightning fast. No more pesky ads and no more waiting forever...silky smooth operation now.

Thank you all for your replies. Based on them, I have done further research and I believe the problem indeed lies with the abundance of ads. Thanks to those that provided a link to Adblock. I am using Edge as my browser, however, and it looks like they have not developed a product for that yet. I guess I just have to put up with it for a while until they come out with the Adblocker for Edge.

Thanks again

Good morning all,

Just wondering if anyone has been experiencing any issues with this site. Lately, whenever I log onto the site, it causes my computers to run super slow or occasionally completely locks them up. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to load a new topic or refresh the page. No issues with my machines otherwise, and it occurs regardless of which computer I am using. Just curious if anyone else has experienced the same?

Thanks,

Trent

Trent, I've had no problems at all. I'm using Win10 on a Dell notebook and on a Dell desktop. Neither gives any issues. I also access the site on my iPad without issue.

Assuming you are on a Windows machine, is it possible your machine is busy downloading updates for Windows when you are trying to access the site? I usually check my disk access light to determine if there is activity in that area.

I ask this because you indicate that after a few moments (when Windows update is finished????) the machine works fine.

Just an idea.

I have had a slow response from a few sites lately, the worst 2 being UHH and the TV Guide site. I went through all the usual steps. I deleted cookies which helped for a while. So, I set my 2 computers to prompt for cookies.

(Never had a problem with tablets)

I click in info as each prompt comes up and in most cases choose to block all cookies from the reported domain. For the past few days I must have blocked several hundred domains. I couldn't believe the number of sites trying to install cookies. Some are set to expire the next day, some in 10 or more years.

I did accidently delete a cookie my bank needed so I could access my account, but other than that things are looking up. I haven't gotten a single cookie prompt from UHH today, and it is running faster for me. My laptop is even running cooler and the fan no longer runs on high all the time.
