On the initial search, it also captures GIF images so any thing in your temp file from sites you have visited will also be cataloged as well as sample images from different programs....Best to let it only access your "My Pictures" folder (if that is where you store your personal images)...
I agree. I wouldn't trash a computer because I didn't read all the instructions and couldn't use one program on it when everything else I heard about it would be helpful.

You get a free program that will do simple editing and indexing. Picasa asks you if you want it to index clip art to jepgs any where you give access. You don't read the question or you don't understand but you say OK anyway, and even turn you PC off. You could have don't more damage to PC, software, and your photos doing a hard power down than Software could. You aren't that fast anyway. Or didn't you think of that? lets get upset with the PC makers.
Picas is free software. It is not its fault you don't either read or understand what you read when your asked a simple question before you say "yes".
Any of you free software users able to stay married? LOL

Are you a complete idiot? Your comments are stupid and show that you have no idea how we beginners with a programme get so frustrated and angry with software that markets itself as simple and safe and yet allows us to make serious mistakes. Go back to your latest and most expensive software, make your beautiful pictures, stand back and admire them and congratulate yourself on your brilliance and ingenuity. Then go somewhere else.

Now, let's be nice... your frustration with the software need not overflow onto UHH posters.
Some folks here are so nice and others are like a barracuda! Yes, I know if you don't like the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Mike,
I have just written a looooong post in answer to your problems with Picasa but now I don't know where it is. When I press the reply button, I don't really know who I am replying to.
It seems that a lot of people are having problems and it's simply because they don't know how Picasa works. I just love it and teach it at a school for seniors and I make many, many collages.
Even if I don't use picassa Your post was great, simple and informative. When you want to expand your previous post use the quote reply that way you can connect and keep the string going. At least I think that is the way.

I feel like responding to that but I won't bother.

I use Picassa only when I want to print a photo. I use 3 other editing programs (Faststone, Gimp, & Photoshop Elements). It DOES grab everything that has a JPG or GIF or PNG, every stupid email that includes a cartoon! So I never use it for anything except printing. But I never had the problem of my photos not being on a folder on my hard drive.

Go ahead. I initially sympathized with your problem and frustration because I've taught beginner adult education classes successfully. But if you're in the mood for a fight and truly want to embarrass yourself I can become rude and obnoxious too. While tulsimm's response was a bid snide there's truth to it. Beginners hurry into software and don't read installation instructions that pop up well enough.
So if somebody goes somewhere else I guarantee it will be you unless you can chill out. Go kick the dog or something. We're here to help newbies not to be verbally abused by an over-the-top hot head.
Tools - Folder Manager gives you the control you need so Picasa only shows you photos in certain folders. My pictures for eg. Place a blue circle there and a red cross every where wlse, especially the C Drive, NEVER let Picasa look there. Then "Scan Always"
If you do find a folder in the Picasa Library (1st page that opens up) then right click on it and "Remove from Picasa". You will now see in Tools-Folder Manager that it now has a red cross beside it.
Do not confuse folders with albums. 2 VERY separate things. Picasa blue albums at the top of the pane, do not show in your picture folder on your HD.
You can gather photos from any of your folders and drag and drop them into an album. Only an image of them is in the album, the file it's self remains in it's original folder. You might want to gather all your Christmas Holiday pics together and make a gift CD. Drop them into an album.
If you delete an album, you are only deleting a reflection of your photos not the real ones. If you delete a folder, the album pics are deleted.
I have written a tutorial that might help you. I send them as PDF.
There are just so many places to goto for help, it's just a matter of learning where they are. :)
Well I agree with the people who dump Picasa - I was horrified when I saw another computer grabbing all Pictures. So I dumped it. I have been in photography since I was 8 and now I am 89.
I say that because I am a Gimp User. Gimp is similar to Photoshop but you have to be prepared to learn how to use it. I have built up a modest website on
www.borgepedersen.net. Some of the pictures are from Africa - I should hate to have picassa nab those. Oh by the way Gimp is FOC. When I am Lucky I get pictures such as the mating Dragon Flies and then I am serious to place a watermark on it so it does not get to where it should not be.
I also as you see on the site a fair number of egglaying Dragon Flies - do have a look
I don't know what you are talking about. I downlowded Picasa 3,
looked at it, and haven't bothered with it since. I have noticed no different functioning of my computer or any other programs on it.
Am I the only one to escape this evil demon? I think it may have done something you don't like but it may be totally harmless. Am I missing something here?
