Today's paper described another weekend accident. The operative word was, "ejected." Four words of meaning followed it, "Died at the scene."

Buckle up!

I grew up and drove for half of my life in the North East. I learned as many have how to drive in adverse weather. I now live on the west coast. I have come to expect that the drivers here would find a way to have an accident if you just spit on the ground in front of their tires. I expect that drivers in states with very good weather are most likely the worst and to be fair, I myself more that likely, after 25+ years here, have a few bad habits.

There's a backstory here.
Less than a half mile back, there's a hill that blocks sight. As people came over the hill, they were presented with this.
There just wasn't time to slow down given the ice on the road.

This is why we should slow down when weather/road conditions are bad. Anti-lock breaks don't help in ice or packed snow, despite what we've all heard.

Thanks for that info. You would think they could put some kind of warning sign up.

Seen too many accidents due to weather and speed. Posted speed limits are there for our safety and when weather plays a part everyone should slow down to meet the road conditions that are present. Buckle up, slow down and live. Mahalo for sharing.

Aloha and Mahalo for viewing and commenting JoAnne. That is one thing you don't have to worry about in Hawaii. :-D

Brian, I used to travel 2 to 800 miles a week to traveling our a Montana roads. I didn't miss a trip. It would sometimes take 2 hours to travel 70-80 miles but I did what I had to do. Only had a few accidents. (No one was killed). But I saw some horrific wrecks where people didn't survive.
Most people don't know how to drive on poor road conditions, like the semis in th video.
Glad you are back. Have a great Christmas!

Seat belts are mandatory in Australia but we have our share of idiots.

Living in the heart of the Sierras, I've seen a lot of cars "parked backwards in a snowbank"; even 4WD Hummers. Ruins a whole day of skiing.
Your traction is only as good as your tires.

Another thing that I hit on quite often is that if it is a law that a person must turn on their headlights when it's raining, why don't the cops enforce that law? I often will be driving in a pouring rain and even have cops go by in the other direction without headlights on.
But they keep stressing the seatbelt law, so someone doesn't get hurt in an accident. Okay, let's do something to prevent the accident that someone might get hurt in.
I've been told that, 'Oh the cops don't want to get out in the rain and write a ticket.' I say, so, just pull them over and get on the 'bull horn' and tell them to turn on their lights or 'I WILL write you a ticket!'
I have people respond along the line of, 'Well, I can see where I'm going; what's your problem?' I usually then tell them that I can't see them coming up behind me when I have to change lanes or whatever. They again reply that that's my problem, not theirs.
And, parking lights are just that, use them when parked and not while driving.
I flash my lights at cars without their lights on as a reminder. Many will turn them on, but there are those idiots who will turn them on and then right back off, as if to say, 'I know they're not on - up yours', or whatever.
I often wonder why this law is not stressed via the media, as well as they do for seatbelts, texting, etc.
Oh, well, sorry for the rant . . .
