A long debunked silly myth. Margerine originally was invented for Napoleon as a cheap substiture for butter in 1869. It was made from beef fat and water. Margerine is made from fats and water. (Hydrogenated oil). Plastic is made from polymers like crude oil, wood, plants etc. (Hydrocarbon). Margerine and butter are both saturated fats. No trans fats. Being one molecule or one atom away from a toxic substance means nothing. Hydrogen peroxide is one atom away from water.

I don't know what your margarine is made from but Canadian margarines are made from canola or vegetable oils, not plastics. And it has no cholesterol or Trans fats at all. And 1 gram of Saturates and 60 calories vs 80 for butter.
This isn't special margarine either, just ordinary storebrand.

Wow  I feel better with your response, thanks for the 49th :?

You should probably read this. All of it. It appears to be an unbiased comparison of margarine vs butter. It specifically addresses the margarine made from vegetable and canola oils.

And of course, plastic is derived from petroleum.

Margarine isn't derived from petroleum, per se, but it is derived from oil--vegetable oil. As soon as I learned of its qualities, many years ago, I moved back to butter and stayed there.

I know I converted after I finally stopped to read what I was eating. And like you said the difference in flavor. Also if someone doesn't want to read the chit chat it doesn't take much finger effort to skip over it.

When I was a little kid - late 1940's - there was a product called Oleo Margarine. I was white and came in a clear plastic bag. Inside the bag was a capsule of red food coloring. When the housewife brought this home, she would massage the bag, break the capsule, and keep working the product till it was roughly the color of butter. DIY food. Uum! Yummy!

In those days and even a little later it was illegal to sell margarine pre-colored. It all came with the little pack of coloring.

Why in the world would I go out to the garage to butter my toast?

They had laws for that kinda stuff- Right on!!

Maybe we should bring that kind of law back, and become better educated with what the multi-nationals try and sell us

Hmmmmmm.....memory #342
Lived in Niagara, Wi.... margarine was NOT sold in Wisconsin.
Iron Mountain, Mi.... 4 miles away. Had tons of it...
We loaded wagon which supplied 10 families for a month.
Wis. is Dairy State... sells only cow's yellow butter. War years. Nobody had "red" tokens to purchase "butter." Used them on items more important.

Hook up "horse team"... do a margarine run to Michigan. White sticky stuff with "red bean" in bag. Sunday evening.
Mushed it around during radio programs. "Great Gildersleve" & "Fibber McGee" etc... Each child got a bag of white stuff. Mother "popped" the bean. [children tryin' to pop a "red" bean resulted in punching a hole in bag]... that meant all the white stuff + red bean got dumped into large bowl and mashed with a "wood potato masher." "Oh Happy Days"

"Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..."

My daughter, who is a chemistry professor, told us that many years ago. We stopped using margarine immediately.
Butter tastes better any way.
