My attempt. Most of the work is in ACR with a touch of luminosity masking, then Topaz Adjust.

WOW! I love how you brightened all the colors, Dave.

A very nice rendition, too, MMC. Much sharper than the original.

A different attempt. Picked up where I left off and followed Linda's lead. Straightened image. Removed distracting pole. Ran it through Topaz clarity and then just for fun did a tone compression through Photomatix

OK you have had some good attempts Shakey at enhancement. Ya seen one Greek island ya seen em all unless you take your holiday snaps like ol' Billy. Working title a colorful vacation.

Probably not what you were looking for Shakey my friend but forgive an old fella with a brain mashed by years of alcohol and substance abuse!

Yep, you have been hitting the bottle and substances a little too hard on this one, Billy. True, many Greek islands are similar but I've seen nothing like this, ever. LOL!
Good leg pull, old chap.

Shakey A leg pull? My man THIS is what I do lol. I create images like this regularly. A leg pull indeed!! Hours sweating over a PC under a sweltering tropical sun on the edge of a mosquito infested jungle clearing where my nippa hut is located carefully placed on stilts so that the poisonous snakes cannot get to me and he calls it a leg pull!!!
The only drinkable water available is collected from the tropical storms using banana leaves to funnel it into a barrel. We live on monkey meat traded with local Indians with the remains of a meager pension and my ol'pal insults us with harsh words!!!
This is probably the end for me Shakey. My reason for living has been taken away. Do not feel guilty I am used to being profoundly misunderstood. My parents dressed me as a girl until I was 17 and Im sure that had some effect on me. The only kid who played played rugby with his hair in pigtails.
Goodbye my friend I shall now fetch my revolver. It is time.

Billy, you've got me weeping into my beer. To think of you sweltering and suffering all the indignities of jungle living and yet striving to produce art that is often striking yet unfathomable to this mere mortal. As an old pal I often admire your work even when I don't understand it. Keep it coming mate, one day I'll be enlightened enough to understand your concept.

BTW, do not load the revolver! Dressed as a girl until you were 17? Wow, that must have been exciting at times. As for playing Rugby in pigtails that was in advance of your time. Did you see the All Blacks guys with long flowing hair and pony tails. You see, Billy, you are a trend setter. Good on you, mate.

Aw Shakey this one is easy. Your island is there the striped tee shirt is a holiday maker sat at a bar if you look closely and there is a hand on the top right under water swimming. A bit of ancient Greek type
architecture thrown in top left. See I told ya its just a holiday snap Billy style!!
They are not as hard to understand as folks think there is always a clue in the song or write up that goes with em.
Keep safe my friend

You too, Billy. Thanks for the explanation.

Where creativity's concerned, I didn't get any further than "Lose the pole" :) . However, it was a nice one to work on, and I'm glad you shared this part of your trip with us.

Thanks for your interpretation and kind comment, R.G.
Losing the pole certainly improves the image :-)

Here is my attempt in LightZone (free PP software). I cropped to remove the pole, straighten the image, adjusted tonal qualities to be brighter and more vibrant, added clarity.
