Taken 10/25/2015 from the top of a volcanic crater in Haleakala National Park, Hawaii. Straightened the horizon but no other post processing.

My favorite spot on earth. Sunrise-Sunset or any time there is none better. Good photo, would be nice to see some of the foreground but just knowing where it came from OK by me.
Patty, for me it is not moody, it is muddy. You have some great colour in there, and the sunlight is handled well, but the detail just doesn't pop. I do like the compostion. The sun is centered, but it has a nice diagonal of rocks leading toward it. The de-haze tool in Lightroom might help.

For my eye this is just too dark. Without the title this would just be an under exposed sunrise/set anywhere in the world. I think you got carried away with trying not to overexpose the sun. The result is that it almost the only thing visible. You should be able to lighten the shadows in post and get some detail in the foreground.
