Nice set, Wayne, nicely done.
Something tells me this guy could make a living as a model.

Yeah he would make a good model, but I think he's more interested in sports. He is a very good football player, but he's a great hockey player. I don't know if you noticed the hair, but in Minnesota that's what we call hockey hair.

I can totally see that!
Hope he keeps all of his teeth.
Are you using direct flash? ie: no modifiers?
Some look a bit hard to me.
Your poses look good, one of my weak points.

I'm using off camera flash, Godox AD360 speedlite with a Godox AD-s7 softbox. You are right the flash was a little heavy on some. I'm doing a re-shoot with this kid tomorrow afternoon.

Nice looking little
softbox.
I'd say just dial the power back a touch so it becomes a fill light, and move it closer to soften even more.
Have fun!

Hi Don,
I still think you are a little heavy on the light and need some more shadowing to bring out the details and features in the face. I'd go along with GoofyNewfie and decrease the power on your flash unit(s). Put in some fill light, once the speed light is dialed back, and I think you should have a much more interesting photo.
My 4 boys all played ice hockey, still have all their teeth as well as myself, a couple have a scar or two in the face/chin, but none of them ever had hair like that . . . maybe hockey hair in MN is different than in OH - Hah!!!
One time during a practice, I took a puck right above my upper lip and beneath my nose. I didn't think anyhting of it, but a player came up to me and said I may need stitches since it was bleeding pretty bad! After practice, I did go to the ER and they put some in, but I didn't lose any teeth - thank goodness! Cheers my friend.
Best Regards,
Tom

Good luck with that one! I just went to the dentist Friday to keep what few teeth I still have. I am sure that I broke a few guys' hands with my mouth while on the ice. Rubber pucks did not help much either.
These are pretty good, but i have to agree with the flash position. It may be off camera, but it looks on-camera in several - particularly the last two in the set of six as I see no shadow at all and the catchlight is pretty close to dead center.
On the other hand, the one of him hosting the football (3 of 6) has fantastic lighting. I really cannot tell if it is all natural light or the OCF, which, of course, is the goal of using flash - make it LOOK like natural light.
Kid's got great bone structure - a model's face.

I agree! HE is beautiful!
I enjoyed these pics Wayne. Good job. Taking a deeper look I can see some harsh light as others mentioned, but also some look flat to me (#1) It could be my tendency to drift towards bright skin tones. #3 is spot on (hard to disagree with the Captain) and the hockey hair pic is a great combination of good light in the hockey hair and blurred background.
Given the hockey passion, I hope you get some pics on ice! Careful not to slip :)
