The very latest update is 2.3.0 (151) Macs
and 2.1.0 for Windows

This is the one that repaired problems that hit Mac users the most. Contains the simplistic import screen and bug fixes.

Well, I don't have Mac so won't worry about that one yet. (-: Thanks, Searcher.

2.3? Have not seen that one yet - I had the one where the import screen changed and others complained about problems, but worked fine for me... then got the fix for the "problems" but still not seeing 2.3.0 here on my Mac.

Thanks, but it looks like they are talking about the CC application, which mine is currently at 2.3.0.151, however, Lightroom cc is still 2015.2.1 from what I can see, unless I am missing something.

I also stopped and started my CC application, JUST in case it got confused ;)

Mess? The import changes were a bad move, but import still works - it is not a big deal, but I am glad they want to reverse it to the "advanced" capability that they had.

I honestly do not see it as a "mess" to avoid though. Importing is only one aspect of post processing.

I may be a lucky one as I saw no real issues using the "flubbed" version, other than the inconvenience of the dumbing down of the import screen - no crashes, no hiccups, no slow downs. And of course the patch came out very quickly to address the major problems that were reported, and when the new update comes along I hope it will smarten the import back up where it belongs.

Thanks so much for everyone's comments and input. I guess mess wasn't a very good way to ask about this. Since I am new and no one in my tribe would refer to me as tech savvy, I would prefer to learn one way that won't change much for a couple of months as I learn the basics. Since there is no time table, I will go ahead and start with chin up and a big smile!

If I understand you correctly, does that mean that the standalone LR 6.x gets updated less frequently than does the LR CC, so that it's not quite at the same "cutting edge" most of the time?

That's been the stated plan since LR became CC available. LRCC already has the dehaze tool that, to my understanding, is not in the version 6.X non-CC.

Not sure about frequency meaning do they send out fix packages of both versions simultaneously but the stand alone version only gets fixes where CC gets the fixes and new functionality.

You tell me. Please compare and contrast how updates, fixes, and functionality differ between these two forms of Lightroom. Thank you.

Me tell you? Thank you for the assignment but no thanks. if you want to know the differences, let Google be your friend. Bottom line, they were likely the same products at release, thereafter CC adds function and the stand alone does not. The pacing and the specifics are for your discovery.

I feel the same way. Most of the old functionality is still there, you just need to dig it out. I am glad though that they are going back.
The one little thing that bugs me is the removal of the "eject after import" option.

Import and catalog confusion seems to be the single biggest issue that some folks have with LR so it shouldn't come as a surprise that Adobe tried to "dumb" down the interface.
I think that during install there should be a point at which you choose the default, "iTunes " sort of interface or an "advanced" interface such as what many of us know and love.

I am not sure if it is any less frequently, however the products have different features built in now, so the standalone would not have the same built in functionality as the CC package. I suspect that it will divert further as time goes by.

Version 2015.X.X is the subscription version (also known as "CC" ). It gets updated regularly with new functionality.... Both look and work the same way, except the subscription version gets embellished with feature enhancements.

Thereby forcing even poorly implemented "updates" on you, whether you want them or not.

Another reason I'll stick with the stand-alone LR version (I bought my car, too... rather than lease it.)

Updates are not forced - you click the button to update after the CC program notifies you.
