I have an old Cannon Rebel XTi and the SanDisk will not extract. How do I get it out without hurting the camera?

Can you grip it at all - like with small pliers? Does it move at all - even wiggle? How long has it been in there? I wonder if the label is coming loose. That caused trouble with VHS cassettes.
Can you fit a knife blade between the card and the camera and pry it out?

How long has it been in there. I've seen this when a card was inserted backwards.
It will move back and forth, slightly, and I'm cautious about pulling it out with a needle nose pliers. Do you think it will damage anything else?
It has been in the camera for several years now. It is in the correct directions. The little button on the side is in the "down" position and not able to push it out as originally designed.

Well I've only seen this when a card was inserted backwards, but if it were mine I would use a small pliers and try to pull it out. I'm assuming you don't want to take it to a repair shop. They may have a way to release the card and check for or repair any damage. I also don't leave cards in my cameras. To me its kind of like leaving my guns loaded for long periods of time when they are not carried or in use. Its not good on them. I have not read any research that this may be the same on a camera card and spring releases, so don't chastise me, its only an opinion.
Thank you, I'll keep in mind about leaving the card in the camera.
If the card works, you could leave it in there.
I would use needle nose pliers and pull it out by shucking it up and down genttly but firmly, it might be bent contact.
Thank you for your reply and that is exactly what I did. I will remove it when not in use from now on. I did not see any bent prongs so this will be my eject system from now on.

JonF,
You were lucky. When/if you have to pull one out again, you might use the other hand to hold the release button down so you are sure it has been released.
the release button is stuck in the down position. I tried pulling it up without success.

Jon, I don't know how you would check this, but could something else, a chip of plastic for example, fallen into the slot? If you can't pull it up, it sure sounds like something has broken and jammed it--the spring?
Unfortunately I may have to take it in for repair. It is 7 years old and may be time for another camera
Not certian in your case but I used an adapter for my micro sd card that seemed to suck the card in all the way.
When I tried to remove it, there was nothing to grab. A few days later I tried again. When I pushed it in farther, the needle-like prod slipped off the card and the adapter sprung out.
Try pushing it in and see if it springs out. If you plan to have it repaired anyways, what do you have to loose?
