I saw him in person in Korea and then in Vietnam and felt like he was just another Branch of Service, part of our war efforts, yet he represented "Home" to us all in the service abroad.
Ya, Bob Hope. People say that the US humour is different than the UK humour, but Hope crossed all boundaries. He sure made me laugh. A great man!!!
Saw Hope in the Sydney Opera House when I was teaching there. Great entertainer. The Aussies loved him too. They laughed at almost every joke but there would be an occasional dud that didn't work because it was too dependent on understanding American culture. The audience would be almost silent. You could count the Yanks, the only people laughing. He noticed and would ad lib a joke about needing Australian writers. He was humble and yet filled the room. We Vets have a special place in our hearts for him because he made us his number one. A truly great American and citizen of the world.

Bob Hope was the greatest entertainer. I got to see him tape one of his specials at the Air Force Academy. It was a terrific day. Comedians these days do not come close to his class.
