I've looked around, but haven't found a battery grip for a D7100 that holds two batteries.

Is there such a thing?

The grip only holds one additional D7100 battery. It does have a housing for regular batteries--AA I think.

Check B&H, was out there for other stuff and saw battery grips considerably cheaper than oem. 1 camera battery or 6 aa batts.

Yes, it does hold 6 AA batteries, I believe, but only one battery for the 7100. You still have two batteries, one in the grip and one in the grip.

I believe all of the grips for the 7100 hold 1 battery. The main battery stays in the camera. 2 batteries total. You can substitute 6 AA batteries for the "Nikon" battery in the grip.

If the menu in the 7100 is like the ones in my Nikons, it lets you set the camera to switch batteries from camera to grip (or visa versa)as needed. 2 camera batteries is a lot of power. With a quick change battery in pocket and watching the battery usage...

fthanks for all the replies.

the grip on my D5100 held two batteries and I could get to both without having to remove the grip.

I suppose the en-el15's are too big to have both in the grip (I no longer have the D5100 so I can't compare the batts)

Unlike Canon which holds two batteries, Nikon grips hold one in the grip and one in the camera for a total of two. Canon grips hold two in the grip but none in the camera battery compartment. The grip goes into the battery compartment and makes contact there.
