For all the old "Salts" out there.
I think the flag you are looking at may be a signal flag.
Glad you found out what it is. As I look at it all I see is being sea sick!
I' m just a bit late. It was the Brooke. I sailed in the Richard L. Page, DEG 5. Their dependents are now called FFGs

Some of our CG ships about that size (255') were converted seaplane tenders.
It's the USS Brooke DEG-1.

I have been trying to ID this ship...it was traveling with us (USS Yorktown CVS-10) in 1968. I have checked online for all types of destroyers (DD,DDG,DE,etc) with hull#1 with no luck. Can anyone tell me what kind of ship this is?
That looks like an ASROC where #2 mount would be, maybe a DLG but I can't find a reference of a DLG1 being launched

It's definitely not a DE. I was part of the crew of a WWII DE, USS Earl V Johnson DE 702 from 1944 to 1946.

The Brooke class was a United States Navy frigate class that was based on the Garcia class DE, later reclassified as "FF" (Fast Frigates), but had the addition of a Guided Missile Fire Control System. The first unit was commissioned in 1966 and the final "sixth" unit was decommissioned in 1989. As stated before, the predecessor to the modern FFG class.. the "first" modern FFG was the Oliver Hazard Perry FFG "7" I watched it being launched at Bath Iron Works .. WOW and now all the FFG's in the Navy have now been decommissioned.. wow .. now I feel old !
