There are so many, and so many are similar that looking for a font to use is overly time consuming.

Jerry, have you tried a small program called "Font Viewer". You open it up, type in a few lines of your chosen text, then you click on the various fonts and can readily see what your text will look like.

I think I have close to 3,000. I worked in the printing industry and needed them to handle customers art work.

As I think someone suggested earlier, why not create a (Jerry's fonts) folder and copy the fonts you want into it.

Good idea. How would I direct programs to look there for fonts?

If you are not going to delete them, you may as well leave them where they are.

My font directory has a thousand fonts and only takes up 438MB. That's not much for a 500GB drive-not worth my time to mess with them.

Why not just leave them alone? Unintended consequences comes to my mind.

Well, one unintended consequence that comes to mind is if someone sends you a document that contains one of the deleted fonts, it will not render correctly. This is because the fonts are not send with the document, but just a token indication the font. If the font is not found on the receiver's computer, then it will render in whatever font you have as a default, usually something ugly....LOL
