I've had a 15.4" Lenovo Thinkpad W530 for a couple of years. It is a Core i7 with 16 gigs of RAM, Nvidia graphics and built in monitor calibrator. Been running Windows 7 Pro and have been happy with it's performance running Lightroom, PS, Portrait Pro and Photomatix. I have 2 docking stations for home and office, one with a 24" second monitor, the other with a 27". I bought the Lenovo because it was the only decent model I could find that offered a proper docking station as opposed to a port replicator. My docks have power supplies, loads of USB ports along with VGA, Display Port and DVID outputs for monitors. It actually can support 2 external monitors if desired. So far, I'm pleased with the machine and have not had a problem with it. Prior to the Lenovo, I had an HP that was also very good and would have had another HP but lack of a good docking station was a deal breaker for me.

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad T430 right now. IBM sold its personal computer arm to Lenovo. The largest beer company in the world, who is about to make a $104 Billion offer for the second largest beer company has standardized on Lenovo PC's and laptops. They seem to hold up pretty well.

I had to read the part about the beer company twice. lol Thanks for your input.

I'm not a computer expert by any means so others may want to speak to this point. But, I'm not sure I'd pick an i7 processor over the i5. Of course the i7 will be faster, but the i5 will give better life and less heat.

Really? I'd like to learn more about that. I always thought newer, more powerful was better.

Hi donnahde, from your stated purpose, culling through photos, here is how you should rank your choices:

1) Screen quality, an ips display will be a lot easier on your eyes and give truer colors and better off axis viewing.
2) Processor power, an Intel i5 (best bang for the buck) or an AMD A10 (best combo for CPU/graphics).
3) Graphics power, Intel HD graphics are still weak compared to an Nvidia or AMD A10.
4) Memory, 8Gb are a minimum.
5) Storage, more is better. SDD's are much faster but way pricier than standard HD's. A 1Tb drive is nice for photography.

Hope this helps.

Nobody mentioned, Built or Support, I've owned IBM PCs for more years than most of are because, of built quality but, mostly because of Factory warranty and support, best in the business, they stand behind everything. (Lenovo is IBM products)

You are correct, IBM sold off the PC business end to China based Lenovo and are partnered together where IBM provides maintenance in support and warranty services for Lenovo. A great team effort allowing us the consumers to afford a high quality with great follow-up service. No I'm not an IBM employee or affiliate, just a long time satisfied customer.

I have been happy thus far with mine. First time Lenovo owner. It has traveled to Italy and back - never skipped a beat.

Light editing (mostly culling) while watching TV. I shoot sports and events for yearbook company and often have 1000 images a night to cull thru and it gets old to do all that stuck in my office. I thought it would be nice to do that in front of the TV.

I also want to have a laptop to take on site when I have jobs like the golf tournament I just did. And sometimes it would be nice to shoot tethered.

I want to have at least LR on it and possibly PS as well but that's not a necessity.

I plan to take the computer for making presentations and doing signups for my health/wellness business as well - it at coffee shops - so would need good wifi capabilities.

Thanks!
Light editing (mostly culling) while watching TV. ... (show quote)

I use my Lenovo Laptop for the same purposes you're planing on with LR & PS and WiFi in Starbucks and at home.
I also use it for all my Astropotography work. At home and in the field.
All with excellent results. Good luck.

I don't know what your use is but I have found that the Lenovo support (drivers) for all of their laptops is the best than any other company that I have dealt with yet. They do not stop with what was on the computer when built but will update for years. And I used to work for HP!

I am considering the purchase of a Lenovo Flex 3, 14", I7 laptop 2 in 1 with Windows 10 on it. Does anyone have experience with it? I spent some time at the Microsoft store at the mall today and was impressed by that one. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. ~Donna

Lenovo is a pretty solid brand. IBM sold their laptop business to a Chinese company, Lenovo. They tend to be slow but steady. Good corporate machines for the sales force, lawyers, accountants. Not as good for graphics and photo post processing. But that's a big generalization. If you can get it outfited with a higher speed I7 (Not all I7s are equal) it's usable. But make sure to get 8 gb or more.

My niece bought a low-ball Lenovo for school. It was really a dog. I prefer ASUS, HP and Dell in that order.

Windows 10 is great. It has run every program I've given it. Easy to learn. Fast.

Of course that's my opinion. YMMV.
