Nikon D7100 Metering Problem

Is anyone having trouble switching between metering modes on the Nikon D7100? Today, I switched over to center-weighted metering, took a few shots, and when I wanted to change back to matrix metering, the setting just wouldn't change. I finally turned off the camera, and turned it back on again. After I did that, I was able to change metering modes with no problem. Do I have a defective camera, or is there something I am missing? Thank you!

I just got a new D7100 about two weeks ago and I have not experienced the problem you had with yours so far. Good luck with it. Hopefully it was a one time thing.

What lens were you using? You didn't also have auto area focus set to on as well?

Using Tamron 16-300mm. Auto focus mode set to AF-S. AF Area mode set to single point. It let me set metering to center point, but couldn't change back. As soon as I turned the camera off and back on, I was able to change to matrix.

If I am reading page 83 of the Nikon D7100 user's manual right, when you have auto area af set, center point is the only one that works.

I believe that's just referring to the use of spot metering and which spot it will meter. I was using matrix metering and then changed to center -- then it wouldn't change to anything else until I turned the camera off and back on. Then, with all of the other settings the same as before, I was able to change the metering mode to any of the three options.

Not that you SHOULD have this problem, but the camera is a computer and all computers sometimes get a glitch and need to be rebooted. That said, I have not had the problem that you have and if it continues, I'd talk to Nikon.

I have had the D7100 for a year and I have never had that problem.

Just curious, what mode were you in (P,S,A,M,Auto, etc)?

I've had mine lock up a few times. Just turn it off and back on. It's electronic.
