I'm shopping for the best PC Monitor for Photoshop.

Clear Gloss and LCD are not good

LED Monitors seems to be the best

What do you think about Asus below?
ASUS PB278Q 27" WQHD 2560x1440 PLS/ IPS DisplayPort HDMI DVI-D VGA Ergonomic Back-lit LED Monitor

Is there another Monitor that you recommend for the value?

I don't know the recent models. My monitor is about 4 years old. It's a satin screen, not gloss. Mine is 23". You didn't say what size you're looking for. So the model number changes with that. I'd recommend going to Best Buy if you have one where you live and look at monitors in person. What one person likes is not what another person likes. You may find that you DON'T like the looks of LED and prefer LCD when you look at them in person. You can't buy a monitor from reviews and recommendations. I just know I like Asus and Acer best of all the brands in the lower price category. My wife also has a little 10" Acer netbook and it's screen is as clear and crisp as my 23" monitor.

I have a 24 viewSonics, I thought the screen blow out. I got a Samsung 27 inch LCD. I don't like it at all. Even my TVs LCD LED.

I have to have LED. I will go to Best Buy about 15 min. from me. thank you for the advice.

It has to have an easy knobs to calibrate it.

I will let you know in couple weeks what I decide on.

My 24 VviewSonics one port is not working, I got an adapter to fit the small HDFMI port to connect to my desktop.

I know there are some OLED displays but none available for a PC that I know of. So there is no LED monitor they are LCD with LED back light instead of CCFL back light.

You beat me to this comment. The large monitors are LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays) with LED (Light Emitting Diode) back lighting. The LED backlight is much better than the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlight. The LEDs are stable over a long time, turn on instantly and have a longer life than the CCFL lamps.

I have an Acer 23 inch monitor and LOVE it. It was one of my last purchases from geeks.com before they went out of the internet sales business. :-(

Make sure it's an IPS monitor...they are excellent for photography and are not dependent on your angle of view...
This is mine, had it a few years and love it...

You might want to also check its' specs for color reproduction. Make sure it reproduces a minimum 99% of the sRGB gamet. More expensive IPS LCD monitors cover the Adobe RGB gamet such as the Dell UltraSharp series which I use.

I have had my Asus 28" (ASUS VN289Q )for three weeks. Did a lot of research, gurus pushed for high resolution not the 1920 x 1080, but frankly, the hi resolution monitors jump in price beyond what I could afford.

Years ago... many... I looked at 17" vs 20" for word processing and decided 20" required I move my head. So? 28"? well consider that your field of view is about 17" at 24" distance what is the additional ~6" for? Waste? NO, photo edit, tools, and for EMail, ads. So 28" gets you that 17-18" view like the screens of old times.

Have you considered an 32" HDTV? Same resolution as a moderate priced monitor??? Why didn't I? Desk top space. Could have mounted on the wall for proper viewing distance. There is a web site where that is discussed (sorry no link). Remember, the human eye is the limiting factor in resolution, distance relationship. Theory and calculations is one thing, reality is another thing altogether, what do you really perceive?

I paid $230 from Newegg, (Labor day sale now $280-30rebate) including shipping, and got my $30 rebate Friday. Note, the Q model has more input choices compared to the other ASUS VN289 models. They come with 3 year warranted.

Check out the ViewSonic line I've been using them for some years now. At this time I have a VX2770Smh 27 inch that is hands down the best led monitor I have ever had. Has whats called super clear IPS color is great and you have to look at it almost edge on from the side before the colors start to fade. Unfortunately it does not swivel.

Also recommend you get a Spyder4 buy Datacolor. It helps you adjust settings for best monitor out put. I have dual 27 inch monitors an older veiwsonic and the one shown and the spider synced both together so close there is barely any difference between them.

Very good advice and overview of current options.

I'm using an HP LP2475w that cost me about $400 about five years ago. This is graphics quality with wide 102% gamut (sRGB.... 92% of NTSC), IPS monitor with a non-glare screen that's easy to calibrate and has worked out well. It's a 16:10 (1920x1200) aspect ratio, which provides a Photoshop workspace I prefer over the more common cinema-style widescreen. And I have it fitted with a homemade hood (matte black 3/8" foamcore board, some black gaffer tape and a few strips of Velcro). This particular monitor also can be rotated to vertical orientation, though I rarely do so.

My HP was one of the best values five years ago. One negative is that its screen is slightly uneven. I think some newer models are available now that are bigger and as good or better for less money.

I agree too, that for proper image editing you really must calibrate any monitor. Nearly anything you buy will be overly-bright by a large margin to start with (when I first got my current monitor, I had to turn down the brightness to 18% for proper image viewing levels... now after a lot of use, it's just over 30%). If you print, an overly bright monitor will cause you to make way too dark prints. Anything you share online will tend to look underexposed, too. Calibration also insures accurate colors, and needs to be done every month or two, as monitors color-shift over time. Straight out of the box, my monitor didn't render particularly accurate color... would only be considered mediocre. But after calibration it ranked as one of the best of its day. You had to spend 2X as much or more to get as good, calibrated color rendition.

I use a Datacolor Spyder 3 calibration suite (hardware and software). Newer versions of that... or a Pantone Huey... or an X-Rite ColorMunki... might be more essential to quality photo editing than the monitor you choose.

I have had two Samsung LED 24 in. They have both been excellent. Acer is a second-tier company, but I had great results from two desktop computers and a laptop.

ASUS consistently sells excellent products. We used to use their motherboards when we made up our on pcs. More recently have used a couple of ASUS laptops. But, of course, their monitors are almost certainly made by someone else and simply have the ASUS name slapped on them.
