Geotagging images with Canon 70D

I just downloaded Canon's new Android app "CameraConnect" to my Galaxy S6, replacing my EOS Remote app. This new app is compatible with (says Canon) both my PowerShot SX610 and my EOS 70D. I was excited to see that the new app has a geotagging function that works like this: Using CameraConnect, the phone logs my location over some interval. With the camera NOT connected to the phone, I take photos while the phone is logging my location. Then I connect the phone to the camera, and using CameraConnect, transfer the location data to the metadata of each image taken during the logging period. VERY clever. It works perfectly with my Canon Powershot SX610. However, when I try this with my 70D, I get the message "This function cannot be used with the currently connected camera." I know that I have a good connection to the 70D because the other functions (remote shooting and camera images) work fine. Canon techs on email and over the phone had not seen this problem and couldn't help me.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Has anyone else fixed it? It seems a shame not to be able to use such a useful function.

Subsequent to several email exchanges and an hour on the phone with a Canon tech, I found the fine print regarding the geotagging feature:

† Compatible with PowerShot digital cameras from September 2012 and later.

You can find it at

The techs had no idea.
