creating a pdf contact sheet using elements 12

I am taking a photography class at a local community college and we use Photoshop CC in class. We have to take several photos and make a contact sheet which is then uploaded to a site on campus. CC allows you to make a contact sheet and convert to a PDF file which is then able to be uploaded to the site. I have Elements 12 and can not see how to convert the contact sheet to a PDF file...it may not be possible. I may have to buy the monthly subscription for the semester unless someone out there knows how to do this...By the way I am quite impressed by the photos and enthusiasm of the kids in the class.

PS CC and Elements are different beasts altogether.

Elements is a good basic editing program but far from being even close to PS CC. The result is that features available in PS CC are simply absent in PSE.

As a student you should benefit from a deep discount in PS CC so I suggest you sign up for it and use the real thing for your studies.

Wait for Searcher to give you his advice.

After looking it up as I was surprised that Adobe did not support its own format. It turns out that PSE does save as PDF. Link. However it does not create a 'contact sheet' (multiple captures or digitized images in one page)

First off download & install a PDF creator program. Then create your contact sheet & save it. Then print the spread sheet to the PDF program & save it. Last but not least print or post the PDF. Sounds a lot more complicated than it really is.

PSE 12 will create a pdf, it is a "Save As" item.

The problem is creating the contact sheet, you can do this in the Organiser, but the output is straight to the printer.

What you could do is to create a template (New > Blank to the paper size and resolution you need, use guides to mark out where you want the images, then Place the images and reduce their size by dragging to fit into the guides.

Follow up with Save As pdf and its done.

Save the template separately for the next time.

You didn't mention what type of computer you are using, PC or MAC. If its a MAC you can save a PDF by using the print command.

If you can create the contact sheet in Elements, worst case make and print the sheet, try scanning and turning into a PDF on your computer. Quality might or might not be satisfactory.

There are two stages to the problem producing a contact sheet and printing to pdf file rather than to a printer. Mac and Linux has always had a print to pdf option. Windows 10 finally has it built in. Cute Pdf writer can be installed to earlier windows versions as a kind of printer that can be used via windows print dialog but be sure to deselect the ask toolbar and any other bundled programs.

one way to produce a contact sheet would be to use a program such as libre office www.libreoffice.org afree office suite. you can open a writer word processing document and add jpegs to the page scaling them to fit. libre office also has an export to pdf option which would avoid installing cute pdf.

http://www.howtogeek.com/150891/how-to-print-to-pdf-in-windows-4-tips-and-tricks/ provides clearer instruction on installing cute pdf writer.

To all the offers made here, I have a question or two...

The guy is taking a class using PS CC so my questions are:

1) Why not download a free 30 days version of PS CC?
2) Why not use the student discount offered by Adobe?

I am just puzzled at all the work around offered, all justifiable but... Is not this op learning PS CC?

Oops that was three questions, sorry.

Just saying....

The OP is learning to post process, not how to use Photoshop I believe. Similar to how other classes teach spread sheets , databases, and word processing. rather than Microsoft Office ___ edition. Transferable skills i believe its called.

1 is an option for 30 days
2 is an option to the end of the course.

You are quite right.

Now I have a fourth question...

Once upon a time I worked as a student labs supervisor. We had ALL the software used by the college loaded onto the computer lab PC.

Here is the question:

Why not use these PC since they are free for every student with a valid ID?

No reason not to when they are available but often that does not include weekends or evenings.

secondly licensing which may mean say just 20 licensed machines with classes assigned during the day and even when photoshop isn't being used the classroom itself is in use.

generally schools and colleges will have a site wide license for Windows and Microsoft Office. They are activated by a key server every 30 - 60 days. The key server needs a minimum number of active client pc's 25 i think before it will issue licenses can be fun over summer break. It also means if a student was to use a schools copy it would deactivate itself after a month or 2 being off the school network.

Photoshop licensing is a lot tighter, similar to autocad these tend to be restricted to a particular lab/class so maybe 20 licensed machines on site for a particular course where its needed. Most other PC's will have paint installed as part of the windows install, some may have Gimp installed or other Open source software.

Google Chrome drive docs sheets and slides are also used within colleges. Very low cost for education organisations, more expensive for business. *see google docs for education and google docs for business.

One plus point for google's offering its very easy to install across the domain as part of group policy and there is no licensing issues.

Educational budgets are always squeezed, unfortunately and licensing has to be adhered to.

The unofficial solution will be a student will have a cracked version of photoshop cc 2014 or 2015 and this will end up being on every students laptop that needs it. Creative Cloud created a licensing model where a recurring fee could be charged instead of a 1 off payment.

It didn't stop piracy just gave a reasonably priced alternative. Both cc 2014 and 2015 are easily available (just the same as any other software film music books to be fair). About the only software that isn't is online gaming to an extent since there are unofficial servers for some popular games.

For businesses there are audits that can take place so most will go the legal route, more so in the wealthier nations.

I was able to make a PDF contact sheet in Elements 13 by using the Organizer. Load all the photos you want then select print, change the Print Type to contact sheet and then select PDF as the printer. My computer is Win 7 and I do have a full Adobe PDF version loaded.

refswife, do not limit your self to PS, use the best tool for the situation ... in this case,MS OFFICE 2007 or greater or the Open Source or other equivalent is the tool.

HOW TO: From a file containing your chosen photos...[Fotos 4 PDF Oct 15]... simply drag and drop onto the page... next adjust the size (click and dots will appear then resize) ... then Title and comment on the photos f-8 1/400 ISO 400 etc. Photo taken after car hit my friend Sally Pizza eaten later with her boy friend. :XD:

MORE THAT YOU NEED INFO:
Manipulation of photos from a guy who knows his stuff!!!:

The final touch is the save as ... save as PDF (office 2007 or later)

Windows, since at least 7, has had a 'Save as PDF' function when printing, as well.
