Not Safe For Work.
The banners and adds can be kind of adult oriented.
All torrent sites seem fixated on adult content.

Why go to all the trouble of Linux. Linux will work but I think there is an easier way to eliminate the partition. Go to Freewarefiles.com and download EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition. Use that to repartition your hard drive and eliminate unwanted partition. That should make your HD all one drive (C:) except for the backup recovery drive. Format the whole drive leaving your backup recovery partition alone. Install Windows 10 on a clean install. Getting rid of the unwanted partition should be extremely simple and take about 10 minutes. Don't be scared of downloading from Freewarefiles.com. I have never contracted any bad software from them. However you should watch when installing any software for sneaky ways of installing toolbars and the like. You should already be aware of that. Hope this helps a little. Have a GREAT DAY!

The standard partition managers don't seem to work with these, protected, unnamed partitions. EaseUS if free, but to make the change permanent, I would have to pay $40. I downloaded more specialized (free) programs, and I was able to name the hidden partition. I used Paragon to make a bootable USB drive, but my computer will not boot from it.

i downloaded Peppermint to take a look and it is an .ISO file that is a bootable image. You can just open your favorite burning software and burn the .iso to disk and go or you can use Rufus if you wish to use a thumbdrive

How long did it take to download? Every time I try, it settles in at 2 - 4 hours (713MB). I'm not going to spend that much time downloading it.

Parted Magic deals with partitions whether or not labeled.

Peppermint is 713 MB. Pretty big.

You don't need a full blown package to do what you want here. Use a minimal install such as Puppy Linux, http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm

Then use it's file manager, ROX.

Jerry, you are so patient. I would have given up on Windows 10 by now or thrown the whole lot over the fence. I am not convinced that the change to Windows 10 is worth such effort but good luck anyway.

You may be able to eliminate the files by using the "Command Prompt" and format the offending partition (since has a letter designation). (Format "letter": ) Or delete the offending file(s) if other files are needed. DOS can be your best buddy.

The list is huge and something there should be able to fix your problem.

Thanks. I'll add that to my list. I used similar programs. It's unbelievable how complicated this has gotten. I have to keep downloading and more and more programs to move from one step to another. This program for example requires the use of the Start button in Windows 8, but Win8 doesn't have a Start button. Simple solution: download and install yet another program, and hope it works.

I've been trying to install Win10 since about August 8th. I have six pages of correspondence from a Microsoft tech. Every single step he has suggested has been a problem, and that problem requires a solution which I try the next day. Suggesting I use Linux and download Peppermint5, which will take me three hours or more, seems like a desperation move.

Jerry , I had three machines to do, first two, mine, no problem, third, my wife's, couldn't get anywhere, got in a big circle of steps, called Microsoft, logged on, let them take remote access, no problem, they got it downloaded and started, lost them eventually but at that point I could finish the installation my self, they called me the next day to make sure everything was working, might be worth the call rather than going nuts with it, I'd rather edit photos than do computers, BTW it's raining here and I'm stuck inside, Bob.
