Very nice shots Stephie! There aren't too many of them around any more so a picture of one in what looks like a fully restored condition will be a treasure to some older WW II sailors.

Interesting item about them: During the war when these ships started to slide down the ways there was a rumor that they were "safer" than other ships because the draft was so shallow that torpedoes would run under them. Don't believe it; I had a friend (now deceased) who was a WW II Navy vet and LST sailor who had two torpedoed out from under him--one in the Med. and the second in the English Channel off the French coast.

Thank you so much for posting. My father served on one as part of the Invasion of Normandy. Never could get him to talk about it though. Must have been terrifying.

Thanks for the pic. my Dad was a Doctor on the LST 395 in 1944 on the Pacific. He had a surgical team. You did a good job on the pictures

Great shots, my oldest 91 yr old brother was on LST 349 WW2.
It ran aground and sunk on the coast of Italy. He and a few others made it off but quite a few died.

If you Google LST349 there are underwater video's of it now.
