When you get back on your MacBookPro open the App store, click on Purchased items. You will need to sign in. You should find iPhotos there. Upgrade iPhotos to Yosemite compatible version.

At no time do you need to deal with Photos.

I have tried that, It didn't do anything.

Did you locate iPhotos in the App store? Did you try to open it? Did you try to reinstall it to your computer?

iPhoto and Photos are so similar as to be considered equals. No great improvement. Photos should be in the bar at the bottom of the screen and has a new logo.

At 9:30 edt the Apple tech just informed me that the iPhoto icon has been merged with the Photo icon. iPhoto is no more for laptops. From what the tech told me the response to Photos has been less that good.

This conversion caught us by surprise. I think what is best is to open photos (new program) and import your iPhoto library in your users on hard drive. I have a lot of photography over the years in creative biz--many of my older libraries I saved the iPhoto library where the original photos are. Never thought that apple would pull this. It is a control move. Aperture is gone so here is a substitute. When moving these large photo libraries you will need more space so buy from us. Apple says just reorganize and prune your photo's yeh I have days to work on that.
I am a big time Apple user for years have 7 devices active now.
They have made the move to control everything and monetize it like Adobe that now costs $50 month to use photoshop, illustrator, premiere and indesign the core of the creativity bulsiness's.

You may be out luck if you didn't upgrade iPhoto before upgrading to 10.10.3

I had the same problem. I went the magnifying glass, typed in iPhoto, found it and dragged it to the dock. Now I have both.

My 27 inch iMac is still running 10.7.5 "Lion", and I sometimes think about going back to Jaguar, (10.5) because I liked it much better!

Maybe if enough Mac users were to "switch" back to PC's, Apple would "get the message"?

This is a perfect example of "planned obsolescence", not to make the product better, but just to sell more products.....

Not much chance of that. Apple will always do its own thing regardless of what customers want.

Know the feeling and I still prefer iPhotos to Photos. However, all the editing functions are in Photos, but harder to find. If you go to the Apple Store, they'll provide invaluable tips and tools. Don't give up on Photos as a preliminary starting point for post-processing.

I refuse to "upgrade" to Yosemite and find that Mountain Lion is working just fine for me. Proof of the pudding is that while Mountain Lion remains on my home Mac, my office mate "upgraded" our university provided Mac to Yosemite. It is just NOT an improvement and a friend who is very knowledgable about Macs said there was no reason to upgrade and some drawbacks, including losing OS support for some older, but valuable music notation and photo processing programs.

Her photos are there. They moved the default library. Tell her to hold down the OPTION key and click on the new Photos icon at the same time. This will bring up a list of Libraries. She just needs to highlight the iPhoto Library and it will open with all her photos. Any new photos she downloads will then be placed in iPhotos. She just won't be able to edit using the new Photos tools.
