I have a chance to replace my 25 year old Canon 70-200 2.8 with the new Tamron 70-200 f2.8 DI VC USD. Would you do it?

Mike

Just because of the cost difference. The difference would be about $1200. And the tamron has got great reviews, and has image stabilization.

Hey which ever you choose, how much do you want for the 70-200 2.8. I have the 70-200 L 4 and love it. It is 16 years old and still takes wonderful pics.

You have to ask yourself, how is the image quality of the canon lens? If it is good to excellent, there is no need to up grade.

You don't say what camera you are using, a full frame or a crop sensor or how you are using it, hand held or tripod.
Image stabilization at 200 mm is not really beneficial compared to Good shooting habits. even at the cropped 320 mm is still of limited benefit.

Many people still recommend non IS lens in the lower range lenses.

Tamron won't hold up like the Canon does. Add to that image quality??? a no brainer.

ah yes .... I was trying to calculate one with a 25-year age and landed on this every old EF model. For the white lenses, guess time is flying ...

The 80-200 2.8 and the 300 2.8 were the two lenses that Canon used to take the pro market away from Nikon at the time - they were for the most part - no compromise - and as we all should know , stand up very WELL even today.
