Has anyone found a lens hood for the Nikon P/900 yet? If so what location?

Maybe I'm missing something but the P900 is a bridge camera, not supposed to put a lens hood on a retractable fixed lens.

One thing you need to be cautioned about...a hood may cause vignetting at the low zoom end. It does on my 50x Sony...so I bought a short rubber one that folds back. That cured the problem.

Why not?

If the P900 has filter threads you could get any one of a number of rubber collapsible lens hoods. Since it would mount in the filter ring which is inside the diameter of the lens there should be no inte

The only caveat would be the one James mentioned in the reply before mine....getting one wide enough for the 24mm equivalent at the wide end of the zoom range without vignetting.

Didn't know that...will the lens still retract with the hood attached?

I appreciate your desire for a lens hood particularly since I preach constantly to always have a hood on your lenses. Alas though, I'm not sure that's possible with the P900.

The problem is the length of the lens. You'd have to select a lens hood for a 24 mm lens, but that won't help you very much if you are shooting at 2,000 mm. On the other hand, you could get a hood for that extension but then what would you do at a wide angle setting? I suppose you could also consider two or three lens hoods and change them as you zoom the lens.

Mounting a hood would require a screw mount. The P900 has a standard size screw mount (67 mm I think) that will take filters too. You can screw on a lens hood of that diameter if you like. Odds are though that it won't help you over the range of the lens.

Yes, I bought a rubber lens hood for my P900. Works very well, I keep it on all the time. When shooting fully wide I pull the rubber back as needed to ensure it is not showing up in the corners. Very good value for money, very little money wasted if you decide it is not good enough for you. This is the item. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-67mm-67-Rubber-3in1-Collapsible-Lens-Hood-for-Canon-Nikon-/130753130537?hash=item1e717e7029

There are 2 that work very well available at B&H. A Sensei 67mm 3 in 1 for $8.95 or the Kaiser 3 in 1, that has 67mm threads on the outside to attach the lens cap. It costs $28.99. It is the one I use and it works very well. I leave it on the camera.

Here's my mini-review for Amazon after I bought it:

Q: When snapped on, does it actually get into contact with the lens surface?

A: This lens hood was bought for a Nikon P900 after reading about it in a photography forum that I follow. It is well made and when snapped on the lens by a pair of squeeze handles (at 90 and 270 degree positions), does not touch or contact it in any way, The front glass element is in a housing which has a screw thread and recessed about 3/16" below the rim of the lens. The hood can be reversed on the lens for travel or storage by the same squeeze handles and the Nikon cap that came with the camera fits within the opening. Well made, pretty solid and reasonable cost for a plastic lens hood! Ed

Does the hood work at long focal lengths? Probably not so effectively but my main concern was about protecting the camera lens.

Best wishes.
