Starting a new photography club for Sony a6000 users. Any suggestions?

I continue to use and enjoy my Sony a6000. I know of three other users who live in my plus 1 million metro area. I'm sure there are plenty more who might want to join others and like myself learn to appreciate the full potential of this quality camera.
Any ideas how I could reach out most effectively to other same camera owners with the intent to create a club?
Thank you for any and all of your suggestions.

I live in Salem Oregon and many of the clubs seem to be managed by "Meet Up". My photo club is managed under that umbrella and I get email notifications of my club activities and schedules as well as other club activities (that I don't belong to) with similar interests in my area. It seems that they will assist in the process of starting up a new club so maybe that is the way to go. You might google them and see what they offer and the costs.

Why are you restricting your club to just one type of camera? The only differences between your camera and others are the controls. The basics of photography still apply. Proper light, exposure and composition can be taught and shared by any camera owner. I think you will have a better club if you open it up to all photographers.

When I lived in the Middle East and used photography as part of Architectural endeavors, I used a Hasselblad. When in South America, went to Nikon Kit plus Leica Rangefinders, when the DSLR Kits became too weighty and large, I went to Olympus Pen, to EM5, and now am with an OMD-EM-1 + a Leica DLux 4, a GoProHero4 and my beloved old MinoxIIIS- I thoroughly enjoy reading the many varieties of views and opinions about the many great cameras in use by Hoggers and seeing their images-----------Why are you limiting your interests so narrowly?

I predict a meteoric rise to a hard landing.
Why do you need a "club"?
And just an observation... but why is your location, "In Hiding"?

Try Craig's list, see if there is any interest in your location. (You will need to come out of hiding though)

I wanted to start a club about machine screws.
Only 10/24tpi screws though.
It fell apart when folks where mostly interested in metric screws....

"In hiding" is the default location when you sign up here. Many may not know this, or know that they can go in and change it themselves.

Hi Wendy,
Overstating the obvious, sweetheart?
If folks can manage a modern DSLR camera, I would expect them to be curious enough to delve into their profile a little.
But I might be expecting too much...

I agree. Your club will be too small if it's only open to A6000 users. You can set up a club with meetup.com.

I own and use the SONY A6000 myself and live in the Nashville, TN area. I looked for a club like yours or maybe a SONY Camera Club but there is nothing like that here that I have found so far. I wish there was.

My best photography buddy just bought an A6000 recently and together we have learned more about the camera and faster than either of us would have by ourselves. Because of its modest price the A6000 will very likely be the first fully functioning, high quality camera that someone has purchased as they move up from point and shoot cameras. For that reason they probably won't be familiar with DSLR like features in general and translating information and techniques from someone with another brand of camera will be slightly more difficult. I know that is true in my case.

Contact with other owners of that camera also helps in learning more about all of the lenses and other accessories that are available fort hat model. As it is now one of us will buy something and try it out and based on that maybe the other one will buy the same item or look for something better suited for them.

Good luck with your club.

Agree with others that you may find that your member base will be small if you limit it to a particular brand. A camera is a camera so what brand it is does not matter as much as how you use it and that's where you can add value to a user group. Although Sony has a respectable offering it pales in comparison to Nikon and Canon in numbers.

I do share your interest in an A6000 club but I suspect in my area it would not have many members. But an alternative might be a web forum devoted to that camera.

I've suggested this before and the idea of having sections devoted to particular cameras on UHH did not seem to fly, but perhaps we could organize a separate web site for the A6000.

How would your club operate - a stand alone FB group, a people meet-up at a coffee joint, a sub-set of UHH or ShutterBug, a stand-alone web site, a email forum, what -how. The a6000 is a fine camera, but there other fine Sony mirrorless cameras and I would guess they all have common features. The priciest, the a7RIi, would have some extras, though.

Look on meetup.com and G+ for camera/photography groups in your area. Limiting to only a single camera typ will not attract many, but others in the group may have the same camera and they tend to share with each other.

Also, how do expect to show others the greatness of Sony cameras if you do not interact with users of other cameras?

And this contributor's last statement is a major reason why I'd prefer to be in an a6000 (or, at least, a NEX) club. We are a sub-class of camera user in many photographers' view (stating the obvious).
