I have a cannon Rebel xti and got a quantaray 75-300 mm lens. When I try to use it outside it says to put in new batteries. I tried this, put the lens on and off, cleaned the connections. I tried it in the house and it works there. I tried to change the settings on my camera, but that didn't seem to make a difference either. My daughter in law tried it in her camera and it doesn't accept it either. I thought it was supposed to be compatible, but maybe not. Any ideas????

Not for a basketball photographer! (As I'm sure you know, I have no idea what's going on! :) Someone will help you solve it though.)

here's the picture I just took inside. It is about 12 feet away. I then went out side to try to take a picture and this is what it said....err99 shooting is not possible. turn the power to off and on and to reinstall the battery. which, of course I did. Also I do notice that when I am taking a picture in the house, when I start to take the picture it says busy on the bottom. when I try to take it out doors it never says busy. I also tried to take a picture through the window from the inside and it didn't work either. When I am outside I can hear the lens moving and it doesn't seem to stop clicking.

you make it sound as though the auto focus does not work in bright light

Babby - if you store the original, we might see something in the EXIF data that would give an idea of the details from the camera beyond your description. Is the problem only with this lens or with other lenses on the same body?

what do you mean the same body? It does not do this with my other lens. I have cannons and a tamron.

well, it does stop focusing. I have tried it all over outside. In the bright light where the flash doesn't come up and in the shadows where the flash does come up. I tried taking pictures of the top of the trees and the flowers 10 feet away. Close ups only 4 foot away. changed the settings. It just don't want to take a picture outside.

the exif data will automatically come to us if you press the download button after selecting your file but before sending it to the forum.

What happens if you try to shoot outdoors in full manual and manual focus?

Check the box, or the manual.
If it sez, "For indoor use only." There's your answer.... :?

I looked up cannon xti error 99. Seems like a lot of people have this problem. Do a web search on error 99 for your camera maybe you will find the way to fix it. I don't think you gots a bad lens maybe a bad camera.
Here is what one complaint reads:
I just brought it home from the repair shop (where I spent over $200 because it was showing the Error 99) and once I put the memory card in it showed the Error 99 again. But it works fine without the memory card. HELP! There are lots of others. GOOD LUCK.
