I have Elements 13 and need to know how to resize a photo to upload to flicker. Have tried to up load but keep getting message that image is to large. I found the resize place in the drop down of Image and can resize but then the photo is saved in photo shop format and can only be opened in Photoshop. I need some help here I am using a Nikon D7000 in Large normal. I don't want to have to take these photos over in a lower resolution. Please help.. Thanks in advance to all who respond..

I use this to re-size images. It becomes part of the right-click menu and will batch re-size (Might want to be careful mixing portrait and landscape though, the original version didn't handle mixed orientation too well. I haven't tried it with the newer version yet.) You have the choice of re-sizing the original, create a copy, and can specify a particular size.

Another simple way to resize a single photo and if you are using a windows computer is right click the image file and open it in windows Paint. Paint doesn't read RAW.

Once the image is openned click on resize. Enter the percentage you want the file to be from the original and then do a "save as" so you don't lose your original file.

If you find you entered the wrong percentage after you click enter, undue the process with "control Z".

Hope you can you this method.

I've uploaded 80MB files to flickr (scanned 120 film images) like this one which is 10510x7826 pixels.

So unless your photo's are larger than 80MB, maybe something else is going on.

I upload full size, FF jpegs from my D800 to flickr without resizing anything. That's one of the nice things about flickr, you can view original size. Are you trying to upload TIFFs?

How large and what is the extension?

" Flickr tells us that you can also upload larger files with the new tool. The maximum file size gets a bump up to 50 MB for Flickr Pro users, and free users can go up to 30 MB."

I have a D7100 and use Photoshop CS6 and used to use Photoshop Elements 10 and Flickr.
I don't load my photos at full size on Flickr. The way I make my photos for Flickr in Photoshop is as follows. While my photo is open I type "command i". A box opens up and I untick the bottom line and change the resolution from 240 to either 91 or 120. and click ok. I then type "command i" again and in the box that comes up I tick the bottom line. In the upper part where it says pixels I type 1000 and click ok.
I then go to file. Under file I chose "save for web" and in the box that comes up I name by file and save a low res photo for the web.
There are many ways to do this but that is how I do it using photoshop.

When you SAVE the photo after re-sizing, select SAVE AS and choose 'jpg' and it will save as a jpg rather than psd.

And you should be able to adjust the compression when you Save As. I save jpgs for posting at the internet at 80% compression.

It takes a lot of playing and trial and error to learn the basics of any editing software. I have been using Adobe products for many years and still amazed at what I still don't know. Try reading this and see if it helps with resizing...... And as Papa Joe says use Save As.

I also use codeplex Image Resizer. It works outside any editing program, and you invoke it by "right click" on the image in your libraries>Pictures. Then pick a size from 4 choices plus custom.

Works without waiting for your edit programs to open and hunt through the menu's.

When you right click on the image file or files (will do batch resize), you get a new item on the menu.... "resize picture"

MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOAD comes from the codeplex site. Do a search that indicates "free image resizer codeplex"

So simple to use rather than all the time it takes to resize in your editing programs.

ONE CAVEAT... be sure NOT to check the box to "replace originals", or lose your big original. The program will place the new images in the same folder with small, medium, or large added to the title.

Do you have "Windows Live Photo Gallery"? If so use it. I upload files that are 25 to 30 megs with no problem to Flickr, it just take a little more time.

Irfanview and Picasa ( both are FREE programs ) have very simple resizing tools.

There are several things you can try. Photoshop should have the option to save as and JPEG should be there. I haven't used Photoshop in a while but I think that is right. I know some servers limit the size of files you can upload to. I tried to send my brother in law some files that were about 65mg and his server wouldn't let me send it. Your internet speed may too low especially if your using a public WI-fi and as was mentioned lower your file size. I don't know either if you gave it sufficient time to upload and if your using like a WI-fi from a motel or something like that you could have a lot of issues. I have never uploaded to Flickr either.
