This is my attempt at an animated gif. I was hoping it would work as my avatar but I guess not. I wonder how other people get their avatars to be animated.

GIF files are an option in your profile. There may be some file size limitations, but I just loaded a GIF file for my avatar. It shows in my profile, hope it works here.
Edited to add, it works just fine. It's subtle, just watch for a few seconds.

The one Green has running is an outright animation. Gotta be pretty large file.
Takes longer to run than Ed's and is more fluid.
