Since the Canon 7Dii has come out people are discounting the older model. And the Canon 7D is a great camera. You would have enough left over for a decent lens if you shop the internet well.

Get a new husband.
$1000 is hardly enough.

Let your husband know that after you buy the camera, you will need more money to buy a suitable lens.

What lenses do you own? If you only own kit lenses are you willing to switch manufacturers?

"Nay, NAY, 'fellow Curmudgeon-lighthouse';..."; THAT hubby is a KEEPER.!!!
...now, what to do: First, call B&H customer service (1 (800) 221-5743); Then explain the situation; Then carefully explain the types of subjects//activities in which you're interested; Then ask him about the Quality of a refurbished (fully-warranted), camera; Then, (in as much as its successor is on the horizon), ask how much a Refurbished Sony-A6000 ($650), plus the 16-55mm Lens; plus a good camera bag; plus a couple of Sandisc-storage-Cards; Plus an extra battery; Plus a protecting UV filter; Plus... ('That' which the B&H guy recommends), for a TOTAL of your $1000, (including Tax, Shipping & Handling, if appropriate.)
---------------
...and THAT is what I'd say to a Nice Lady! ! !

Go Sony a6000 and you will have money left over for a new lens! You will love going mirroless with new technology.

Do comparisons and consider refurbished.
