I have a monopod and have not found any use for it beside when we are hiking, even then i dont feel its sturdy enough... and it doesnt seem so light weight. So I have only used it once.

For steadiness they aren't the greatest, but if you are standing on the sidelines at a ball game with a camera and a 300mm f/2.8 lens attached, they are surely great for support. Keeps all that weight off your neck and shoulders.
