Now that the comparisons are out on the Sigma 150-600 contemporary vs. the Tamron model, I have decided to get the Sigma. I have over $700 dollars in Amazon gift cards saved up and would like to purchase the lens.
I found one from Japan Premium which has a 99% positive rating over the last year with 225 ratings. I have never ordering anything from Amazon for my camera so I would like some input on other people's experience with either Amazon in general (for camera gear) or Japan Premium.
Looking forward to posting some BIF pics with the new gear (maybe perched birds to start)

I have had good luck with the things I have ordered from Amazon. It has mostly been books on photography, batteries for my cameras, and other accessories. I have gotten most of my lenses from the refurbished list at Nikon.com.

I bought my Nikon Df, D7000, and several lenses from Amazon and have never had any problems.
I have had excellent success with ordering from Amazon...and they stand behind that product as far as returning after just ordering......
I only do about a thousand dollars business with them every year. I've been with them for ten (?) or so years and never had a problem. Great company.

I have purchased 4 lenses and one DSLR from Amazon, in addition to a couple of dozen accessories. As a prime member, I don't pay shipping, and usually receive my items in 2 days. Their packing borders on overkill. Prices are always competitive. Never had a single problem. I do however, only purchase items that are at least, fulfilled by Amazon. I have heard there are some issues with sellers who stock and ship on their own, although Amazon does hold their feet to the fire, in order to get issues resolved.
In my experience the only small difference between Amazon and B&H is Amazon stocks more generic or economy products and ships just a bit faster.
Amazon is good, fair people to deal with. should there be a problem, they will make it right.
I had only one problem with something I order threw Amazon. Within hours it was straightened out. I think I got three emails from Amazon ask if the matter was taken care of. I was a happy camper. Another time I ordered a fairly large order. I wanted an Itemized receipt, several weeks after my order was completed. No problem. Got an email with there the suppliers Itemized invoice attached.

If it was fulfilled by Amazon, yes I would purchase it, as Amazon is a Sigma authorized retailer, from Premium Japan, no.

Amazon provides customer service only for items that are fulfilled by them.
What's amazon? Oh wait, that's the online place that takes about 1/4 of my yearly income. Prime is soooo evil...yet sooooo nice.

n I would check with sigma if a problem develops with your lens will sigma usa repair it or will you have to ship it to Japan? also see if the manual for the lens is in Japanese only or does it include english
In my personal experience, Amazon provides excellent service. I have ordered photography equipment from Amazon for years.
All the same, you may wish to check out B&H Photo and Adorama. They sometimes offer the same deal as other Internet retail stores, or a better deal.
But look at which Web-site levies a sales tax on the transaction. One or more of the Web-sites may offer free shipping.
In short, shop around.
I will caution you about Abe's of Maine. The store tried to up-sell me once in the most obnoxious way. I said adios, and have never returned there.
Have a good day.

Amazon usually very good but beware of buying stock that comes from a foreign source. If you are not bothered about the associated issues then no problem. I have found that quite often from the UK site we end up getting goods from overseas and it is not immediately obvious on Amazon.
