I have a sturdy tripod, and will be going to the gym to pump some iron.
Eventually I will get a Gimbal Head from MT Shooter.

I rented this lens for a week in Yellowstone in Feb. and it is a great lens. I do have a gimbal head and for this lens, it is a necessity for me. It is too heavy for my ball head and hand holding is good for only a short time at best in my case. But the output of the lens was terrific.

I have this lens and use it in a Sirui P-424 monopod with a load rating of 35lb and a Sirui L-10 head rated load capacity at 36lb. With this outfit I feel it is more portable in the field for wildlife than using a tripod.

That's the head and monopod I was looking at.

From my personal experience I am happy with this outfit, I know the weight load capacity is overkill, but I feel it is worth the extra protection even though my heaviest weight would be around 15lb load.

Thanks. It will be my first non Nikon lens, but I'm looking forward to it.

 , I use a video fluid head on my monopod for following action - works good with 300 2.8 and 2X .
