I'm hooked on jazz. I've had the buttons on my XM radio set for five different types of music, but for the past week, I can't pull myself away from jazz. Don't ask me what kind or what musicians. I don't know. I have my XM set to Real Jazz, and it broadcasts throughout the property via a small FM transmitter. I have music by my computer, upstairs, in the kitchen, in the garage. I am bathed in jazz all day, and I can't get enough of it. I'm sure many of you know what I mean.
I heard yesterday that there was recently a Dexter Gordon Day somewhere. Coincidentally, I adopted a longhaired dachshund from a friend. His name is Dexter, after Dexter Gordon, the jazz musician. His owner was a musician, and he named his other dachshund Pepper, after Pepper Adams, another jazz musician.

I am of the ripe age where all things considered I was hooked on jazz as a teenager. When everyone was crazy about the Beatles or the likes I was listening to Jimmy Smith or Monk or Buddy Rich. I guess I am in the minority but can't get enough of it.
I have Kind of Blue, the first disk, in one of the six slots of the car at all times. Can't beat the opening notes of that album...and actually, most of the entire album. The first cut is, perhaps, quintessential jazz.

Exactly!
As for the saying in your avatar, I remember when bringing film to the drugstore and waiting a week was the fastest way to get a picture. :D

OR running down to the home made darkroom and hoping you didn't mess up

Right! I'm glad I resisted the urge to put in a darkroom. I was able to use the one in the high school when it wasn't busy.
Dave Brubeck, finest kind.
Saw him twice in person, once with the quartet and once with his two sons. The quartet was great.
I read that when he was in Amsterdam once, Willie "the Lion" Smith was asked if he had said that only blacks could really play jazz. Willie reportedly said, "I'd like for you to meet my son, Dave."
Getz is also my lifetime favorite. Started buying his 78's in 1950. Sweetie Pie was always a favorite o mine. I now have everything on CD and a number of Birdland B'Casts.
Stan caressed every note and every chick close enough. RIP Stanley!

I'm a BIG Pat Metheny fan. Has 20 Grammys to his credit.
