Delicate electronic equipment does not like temperature extremes. If the camera stays in her car, and the sun is shining (as you state), what has the temperature gotten to inside her car? Especially if the camera was lying where direct sunlight hit it?

I'm not saying this is what happened, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Remember, the Northeast just had that bout with extremely hot weather.. My wife went back up to Philadelphia from Clearwater because she wanted to "avoid" the heat. It has been hotter up there so far this summer than down here. lol. She is visiting friends and had some busines that we needed taken careof or she would have just turned around and came back.. I think she is finding that being a "snowbird" is over-rated.
Anyway, it is probable that the camera was subjected to extreme heat. Also, when you took it inside, was the area airconditioned and how cool was it? The extreme temperature change may also have had an effect.

I would change cards as well and try again at a higher shutter speed 1/60 or above unless you are using a tripod.

EXIF info says flash did not fire, so that is a big part of the issue. 1/5 a second is pretty tough to hand hold and get rock solid images from. Also explains the ISO going to 800.

The camera itself is working as is the memory card(or there would be no image at all) The flash is the villain.

I am going for too hot. Is it under warranty? If so, send it back. They would either fix it or tell you it is heat damaged. BTW, I never leave a camera in the car in summer.

More than likely, the camera would not be covered for heat damage.. Nikon and Canon both have disclaimers as to storage and operation temperatures and, if they looked at it and determined that it was heat realated, they would offer to fix it for a price.

As these have stated or implied.

My guess is it's a combination of camera shake and incorrect colour balance.

Dngallagher wrote:
Before you bother with worrying about a repair/return - check your settings, you flash did not fire, so your shutter was too slow, and the ISO set to 800. Which might account for both the shakiness and the color issues.

There is no evidence yet that the camera has done anything other than normal under those conditions.
It has a colour cast caused by incorrect white balance setting.
It has movement caused by slow shutter speed.
It is a small sensor causing noise in a low light situation.

Until we see other samples, I see no evidence that the camera acted incorrectly.
What I see could easily be operator error.

Since everyone else is taking a stab at this I will too!

I think you have a problem and it is time to take the camera to someone who knows what they are talking about.

I might tend to agree with brucewells, he posted earlier. If the camera was left in the car in the heat. The last couple of weeks everywhere has been extremely hot. Electronics that have LCD's Example an item left in the extreme cold can have issues as well.

My gf has a Nikon Coolpix P90. Pictures were fine, until 2 weeks ago. I've been searching the web and just gave up. An example is attached. Here's what I have done:
Removed battery and tried again. Nope.
Changed flash drive. Nope.
Reset to factory options. Nope.

When I look through the view finder, all colors are OK. Press halfway, and I just went into an acid trip (I am just assuming that it would look this way in RL on acid), and the resulting picture is the same.
The pictures look the same in Auto or M mode.
I have a feeling that the firmware may have been corrupted or there
is some kind of an electronic hardware issue.

Any help or ideas would be so appreciated.

[quote=jkcii63] I can not say why the color is pushed, but the blur can be that 1/5 sec exposure is much to slow to be sharp. David Also a wide open aperture of 2.8 does not allow for good DOF [depth of field].

This is what's known in the repair industry as a "Psychedelic CCD". In other words, the image sensor has gone bad. Not really all that uncommon with todays cameras, although they are getting better. It can be replaced if the part is available. I've actually replaced thousands of them over the years.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the camera for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

Not sure if this will help, I had a similar problem with one of my cameras - I was advised to look in my menu to make sure "double exposure" was notturned on, indeed it was switched on, (I don't even know how) turned it off and hey ho I was back to normal. Hope this helps.

You need a snowblower. Yeah, silly answer but I'm an ooold photographer. I do think the answer about leaving it in a hot car is likely the problem.

You might try going to the menu and reset the camera's to factory defaults. Also try another memory card.
