Watkins Glen State Park is cool, if you feel like a little drive then Letchworth is also another State Park in the vicinity a little over an hour away. In the Finger Lakes area there are several wineries and photo ops. Corning Glass Museum is quite interesting as well to the south a bit. Have fun!

Head to Ithaca NY - not too far to the east - there are 3 great state parks - all with accessible waterfalls (Taughannock, Buttermilk and Robert Treman ) along with Cayuga Lake - plus there is the beautiful old buildings on the Cornell University Campus. Wonderful photography opportunities.

If you are staying on the west side of Seneca Lake, go down to the lake front in Watkins Glen for the sunrise. If you are staying on the east side, go to the lake front for the sunset. In each case, shoot across the lake with a nice foreground and the sun rising/setting in the background. There is a nice lake front (on the west side of Seneca Lake) in Geneva with a pier. I have seen (and shot) cranes at the end of the pier at sunrise. Because the lakes are the low spots, there are many nice vistas that can be shot, looking down at the lakes, from the hills that rise up from the lakes. Along Rt 14 between Watkins Glen and Geneva, there are many vineyards that offer wonderful shots across the lake looking towards the lake with the vineyards in the foreground. Same for the West Lake Road along Seneca Lake. Also, this time of the year, there may be a sailing regatta on one of the lakes. Have fun.

Lots of good answers above. There are a dozen or more wineries between Lakes Seneca and Cayuga, and others further west and around Hammondsport. There is also the soaring museum on Harris Hill in Elmira, with soaring flights available.
The Watkins Glen SP is the highlight though - it takes a couple of hours to walk through the lower, most scenic section.

I live in Rochester. Only a short distance from the Glen. It is located in the heart of NEW YORK wine country. Many winery tasting rooms/retail shops/casual dining in the area. Auto racing takes place there, but not being a fan I can't tell you much. The area is rolling green hills with good roads that surround the lake. I still shoot film. Fuji when I can get it because of the way it handles greens. A 28 - 210 zoom, (F2.8) would be my single lens. If you want mor reach use 2X xtender. Enjoy the Finger Lakes

Lots of good advice above. There is also Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the women's movement.
