Help.... I do not know what happened to my camera. All of a sudden, my pictures are WAY over exposed. I am shooting manual, my meter is correct, and I can barely see my shots. I have a D3100 Nikon.....did I hit a switch somewhere....somehow ??
Thanks
Is there a mirror lock that I may have hit >>

A downloadable example (save original) would be helpful. If we can download the original, we can look through the EXIF for clues.

I don't know Nikons but I'd be surprised if their output was meant to look like that. If no one here has any useful thoughts, I'd run to the nearest Ritz or other camera store and have someone take a look at it. It's probably something simple, but I have no idea what does what on the Nikon menuing system. Does taking the battery out for 5-10 minutes do anything? Sometimes that resets all user-settable options.

8 Seconds??? No wonder they are so terribly over-exposed!

Turn the command dial while holding the shutter half way down in the focus position.
Or take it off Manual mode and put it on Aperture Priority mode, or Program mode.

Yes, listen to MT, Michelle. Your aperture is WAY too wide open for that long of a shutter, unless you're photographing a birthday cake with two candles in a dark room...
