OK - I vented.
;-)
Everyone knows I vent, LAF, but it's always fun to have an open discussion. S-
Yes - you are right the Sequoias are 150 mi from the CA summer fog - BUT - they are situated in a particular part of CA the is kind of the dividing line of No. & So. CA and at an elevation and location of the State of CA that for some reason gets storms from both sections of the sate one more thing - just over to the eastern side of that Pacific Crest of the Sierras lives the oldest trees on earth - the bristle Cone Pine - go figure how they are handling this blown out of purport ion drouth.
Cores from these ancient trees tell the story of the many wet periods and dry spells by their width - telling how much the grew or did not grow each year.
No chicken Little - the Sky is Not Falling.

Do the Giant Redwood Trees in the Sequoia National Park somehow benefit from the mist, and fog that rolls in from the ocean? S-
Giant Redwood Trees
http://www.visitsequoia.com/redwoods-and-sequoias.aspx- Sequoia National Park is approximately 150 miles or more from the ocean
Truly in Civil discussions many - like my self learn some thing from it
My father worked in the woods/sawmills in the summer and Gold mines in the winter here in CA. These tree hungers of today don't seem to realize the forests of CA have been logged off over and over- Gold Rush-World war 11 - and the building boom after WW11.
They are harvesting trees again from those area. Timber is the ONLY self renewing resource.
OH - yes many of these Redwood, Sequoia, Oak and mixed Pine & Cedar forested areas do need preserving and are being preserved.

I wish...people would stop and listen.
I may be adamant about what I believe, but it doesn't mean I know everything so there's always the chance to learn from another point of view.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it! S-
I have a redwood in my front yard that I have raised from an 8 inch tall sapling that I got at our state fair 10 years ago. Last year I noticed 50% of the foliage was brown. This ear, 2/3rds of it are browned and the bark is turning silver in many spots. I don't think it will live another year in the drought and it is huge. I hate to think about bringing it down... It's very sad to see.

Water it. It's worth saving. Jerry Brown says he only takes a shower every 3 days or so.
