I have a Canon 5D3. I not able to down load photo into LR. Message says can't read card. Don't know what to do . I tried two cards same problem
Try to copy them onto your computer in a folder and then open the folder and choose lightroom to open them with
If that didn't solve your problem. Which version of LR do you have? Does it recognize your camera? Older versions of LR may not have your camera in their database.
can you read the card in windows explorer? If not you have a bad card.
If you can copy the files to your computer and Import into LR from there just to see if that works.
BTW, you don't "download images to" LR...
You Import images into LR.
It is possible to optionally set up LR to download images to your computer, and even to make a backup copy to another location, at the same time it's Importing to LR.
Your images are never actually "in" LR. It only contains previews of your images in it's catalog and the changes and adjustments you make to images within LR are only made to copies from the originals, when you Export images from LR. The original files actually are never changed or modified, except in the case of JPEGs if you tell LR to save the changes and overwrite the original.
Yes, it could be a bad memory card...
...or it may be a bad card reader...
.. or bad connectivity between the card reader and computer...
... or, if connecting the camera directly, bad connectivity between it and the computer.
A "bad memory card" might be several things... Do you regularly format your memory cards in-camera, before using them? (Doing so will erase any images already on the card, so be sure to copy them off first.)
Have the memory cards ever been used in another camera?
SD card or CF card? (5D3 can use both)
If the issue is that yours is an older version of LR that doesn't recognize a newer camera, you'll need to update LR to get full functionality, but can still copy files to your computer separate from LR, convert CR2 to DNG (free converter is avail. from Adobe)
Personally I don't use LR to download my images to my computer. I use a card reader and just use Windows Explorer to:
1. Set up a destination folder.
2. Navigate to the memory card (EOS Digital G: on my computer) and open it.
3. Open the DCIM folder.
4. Open the 100EOSxxx folder (can be 101, 102, etc., camera may create a new folder after every image #9999).
5. Click on any image file in there, then press Alt, a to highlight all of them, then drag and drop to the destination folder set up in step 1.
It takes longer to write or read this than it does to do it!
It's possible to do similar directly from the camera, instead of using a card reader.
