Make up your mind, I was leaning your way till you switched the premise.
more... I read some of your later posts and find that you equate serious and professional as one and the same thing. I am a very serious photographer but am not professional (used to be many moons ago) A serious photographer, in my mind, is one who puts into practice the many aspects of the craft learned over time, regardless of the equipment used. A professional is one who makes a living with photography, regardless of the equipment used. The pro may or may not be a serious photographer. You can't argue oranges when you keep referring to apples.

I'm curious how you define a 'serious photographer.'

How in any way, does the equipment they use make them a professional, or not?

Is this the natural evolution of photography in 2015?
It's like George Carlin once said, it's a function of time.
Everything changes and so much technology. I suppose we're stuck with the selfie. Yes it looks stupid but hey if the results are what these folks want then I suppose looking stupid for a moment is alright.
Wedding photography -- no pro equipment needed.
next step iDrone. 4 micro props with 4K video camera and tiny remote control. No more silly selfie stick. It's also a phone.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

There are still serious photographers in the world who would never use a cell phone for serious imaging......
Oh, well... not so serious, I guess.... shoulda been lugging the bulky DSLR [the "S" stands for SERIOUS?] with a prime lens around on my back as I peddled down the alley on my way to McDonalds, huh?
Serendipity... with a not-so-serious camera
Very good and interesting shot, Glenn!
